We had a delightful Saturday afternoon meeting friends who had just returned from their extensive business trip across various cities in China. After experiencing the culinary delights of different provinces, they still believed that Cantonese cuisine was the best among all. Jade Garden, a restaurant belonging to the Maxim Group with multiple branches in Hong Kong, lived up to its reputation. The extensive menu, presented in a thick booklet, ensured that every dish we ordered met our expectations in terms of taste and presentation.
One noteworthy aspect was their lunch hours, which ended at 3pm. In many other restaurants in Hong Kong, it's common for the staff to start vacuuming the carpet around your table and making loud noises while sorting out cutlery and plates, which can be quite annoying and make guests feel rushed. However, at Jade Garden located in Star House, the staff worked diligently and discreetly. We were able to continue our conversation and stay until almost 4pm without feeling pressured to leave.
On the downside, the service was a bit slow, and there weren't many visible servers throughout the entire lunch session. Additionally, the floor in the restroom was wet and slippery, which could pose a...
Read moreMy recent visit to Jade Garden left me deeply disappointed. Despite having positive experiences in the past, the service during our last meal was shockingly subpar. As a sizable party of 17 spanning two tables, we faced numerous issues. The initial promise to expedite our orders resulted in an agonizing wait, only to discover that key menu items were mysteriously sold out. Attempts to substitute were futile due to the unavailability of special items by that point.
In a desperate attempt to salvage the evening, we settled for additional fried rice, sweet and sour pork, and fried chicken. Regrettably, these substitutes arrived a considerable 40 minutes later. The experience was further marred by waiters mistakenly delivering unordered drinks and dishes to our table. To add insult to injury, a manager presented a bill including items we had never ordered.
While Jade Garden's culinary offerings remain excellent, the egregious service lapses during this visit cast a shadow over the entire dining experience. Despite my previous tolerance for less-than-friendly service, this incident leaves me questioning whether a return visit...
Read moreVisitors from Australia. Went here on the suggestion of our hotel.
From the moment we walked in the service was rude and rushed. The tea and water was at additional costs per person and when we declined, the service further deteriorated from there.
On the menu were cocktails. When we tried to order the the rude waitress kept on saying No. we ordered wine which she tried to upsell to a bottle. The glass of red wine was oxidised and tasted a little like vinegar.
The food was very average. Edible but not enjoyable.
The only stand out dish was the string beans and mushrooms that was very tasty.
The crab with pork mince was overwhelmed by a pork flavour. There was no taste of crab. Even the crab legs were pretty flavourless.
We ordered a beef brisket dish. Beef was well cooked but there was more fat than pieces of beef.
The half goose was so oily and salty we couldn’t finish it. Was chewy and so boney.
The views were lovely and the decor was nice which was the only redeeming features.
If you have to come to this place, avoid it for dinner and maybe try the dim sum for lunch. Expect rude service, bad alcoholic drinks...
