Iconic Hong Kong Views Aboard the Star Ferry
Hands down, one of the best ways to soak in the famous sights of Hong Kong is by taking a ride on the iconic Star Ferry across Victoria Harbour.
As you board the ferry and depart from either the Tsim Sha Tsui or Central piers, you're treated to a panoramic vista of the city's world-renowned skyline. The towering skyscrapers of Hong Kong Island stretch out before you, their glass and steel facades glimmering in the sunlight.
But the real highlight is the unobstructed view of the harbor itself. Watching the bustling traffic of ferries, cruise ships, and other vessels crisscrossing the sparkling blue waters is utterly captivating. You can clearly make out landmarks like the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, the Kowloon waterfront, and the dramatic hills beyond.
The journey across the harbor only takes about 10-15 minutes, but it's a quintessential Hong Kong experience that shouldn't be missed. The gentle rocking of the ferry, the salty sea breeze, and the ever-changing perspectives of the cityscape make for a truly memorable ride.
What's more, the Star Ferry is an incredibly affordable and efficient mode of transport, with fares starting at just a few Hong Kong dollars. It's a great way to not only see the harbor views, but also conveniently get between the major hubs of Kowloon and Hong Kong Island.
Whether you're a first-time visitor or a longtime local, taking a Star Ferry ride is an absolute must. It offers an unparalleled vantage point to admire the iconic skyline and bustling harbor that defines Hong Kong's timeless appeal. Just be sure to have your camera ready to capture those breathtaking...
Read moreOne of our favourite ways to enjoy Victoria Harbour is to take the Star Ferry Harbour Cruise, spending an hour slowing making our way around the harbour, enjoying views of skylines and just being on the water in one of Hong Kong's historic Star Ferry vessels.
Star Ferry Harbour Cruises depart from the Star Ferry Pier at TST throughout the day and evening. See the Star Ferry website for updated departure times and prices.
The cruises are slow, leisurely and come with a drink and packet of cookies. There is indoor seating if you want to escape the sun, heat or rain and you can spend as much time as you like at the two open ends of the ferry, taking pictures of the skylines, harbour and boat traffic for up to an hour when you the Star Ferry finished circling the harbour.
The day cruise is best if sky conditions are favourable, Night trips are great as they show the Hong Kong Skyline at its best but they come at a much higher price. The Symphony of Lights show is not as good as it should be so we actually prefer to take earlier or later night sailings, saving on the higher price required to take the Symphony of Lights sailing.
If you don't have time for a Star Ferry Harbour Cruise experience, you should try to take the Star Ferry crossing between Kowloon and Hong Kong Island at some point in your visit. The crossing takes no more than 10 minutes and is dirt cheap at HK$2.7 per adult, HK$1.6 per...
Read moreThe Star Ferry Pier is one of the most beautiful and iconic places in Hong Kong, also an enduring tourist magnet as both locals and tourists are enthralled by the spectacular sight of the Victoria Harbour with the dazzling neon lights and billboards. As one travels on the ferry, one can take the full view of the harbour and buildings on both sides. Hence the Star Ferry is the only local transport that allows one to enjoy a good view of the harbour as one is travelling across it. The pier itself is an iconic historical monument, a remnant of the old Hong Kong that has been rapidly eradicated due to the unrelentless pace of urban redevelopment. As the pier in Central has been rebuilt and relocated, the pier in Tsim Sha Tsui becomes all the more important as a historical monument.
The Star Ferry provides an elegant way to travel across the harbour. When the buses and trains are packed, the ferry provides a more comfortable way to travel across the harbour as it is not always the first choice for locals to travel across the harbour during peak hours; hence taking the ferry during peak hours allows one to avoid the...
