Most horrible experience I've ever had in any hotel around the globe
I have always been in love with Gateway Hotel, mainly due to its fascinating location along with great food at Three at Canton. But I guess now this place should be forever blacklisted in my opinion
Lets just out it bluntly
Can you call yourself satisfied if you have to wait for 1.5 hours queuing by standing at the check-in line? Along with staff that are really slow working (they would check-in one room and then disappear for 10 mins until they come out to serve again).
Can you call yourself happy if when you have been standing there when everyone is also questioning why this took so long, and you go to the staff and asked them what happend, they tell you "accept it, this is fair. Everyone is waiting"? Dude I was just asking about y it took so long! I didn't need any special treatment but I just kindly asked if more staff could be assigned to help all of us out. Worse of all, nothing happened. That counter woman just rolled her eye and continued to her own business. They went on being slow until eventually like 1 hour later they finally opened up 2 more counters but by then I've been there for almost 2 hours!
The staff also muttered about how much they despised the ones who complained. It's ok to feel angry at the visitors in a hotel business. I respect people for being upset in work.
But don't let your guests hear them all, please.
I didn't complain on the spot because everyone was so fed up. I just kept it to myself after the hotel seemingly didn't even care
Worst of all, the room service is atrocious. I ordered a piece of cake via room service at around 19:30. They said it will arrive in 20 mins
And eventually I waited until 21:00 and nothing happened. I called again, and they said they'll check. Another 20 mins and finally we got a call that it would arrive in 10 mins.
And it did, thank god. Oh right it was like 21:45 already.
I could've baked my own cake in that time.
Lastly, the staff asked me what I ordered and how much it costed at the checkout counter. They had no record and no information about my order. I could've just walked out and no one would have known I had that cake. What a rubbish hotel
Poor management, horrible staff and extremely dated room service arrangement
Surely this will only be my choice of hotel if the entire HK has no space for staycations.
If I could, I would give them half a star just because the guy who helped me check out was very nice and tried his best - how that should have...
Read moreBooking for families? Be warned! While the place is spacious, clean, and convenient, I had a bad experience with the booking. I got two rooms under the Connecting Superior Room from Expedia for a party of 4 adults & 3 kids. And the booking page states that it can sleep a total of 8 people, we will either get 1 Queen + 2 double beds OR 4 double beds in total. I even messaged the hotel staff to confirm in advance, to which I was told that the hotel would try their best to make the arrangement. But when I got there, we only had 2 Queen beds in total, which was insufficient. After speaking to the manager, I was told that Gateway's connecting superior rooms do not have double beds, and said that the description meant that we would either get 1 queen bed OR 2 double beds. (I wonder is my English that bad 😅 cos apparently the conjuction is an "AND"). Nonetheless, he offered me 1 add-on bed for free as they were out of beds due to Christmas. I appreciate the gesture, but it was still a squeeze for my family. I am not sure where is the lapse - is it a false marketing on Expedia's side or the hotel staff's lack of knowledge, or purposeful withholding of information. Other than this, it would have been a good stay. I hope the management would look into this and correct any false/misleading info on hotel booking websites to avoid bringing a bad rep to the hotel.
About laundry services - one thing to note for families who wish to wash their clothes at the hotel. The prices are exorbitant. It caused us 1,600 HK dollar to wash a day's clothes for a...
Read moreGateway hotel is unbeatable when it comes to its location and convenience. It is right above Harbor City shopping mall, about 5 minutes walk to Tsim Sha Tsui MTR and TST Ferry Pier.
The Continental Club is quiet and cozy with a decent amount of food throughout the day, good for relaxing and chilling.
Three on Canton provides good breakfast buffet with a vast selection of food from different cuisines, and they all taste good.
The rooms are spacious and cozy, with all the basic necessities (kettle, iron, mini bar) provided. A rain shower is also provided, which is a really nice detail.
The only downside is that the age of the hotel starts to show recently, where the carpet starts to smell a bit and the furniture starts to show its wear. The mattress flattens a bit when sleeping, which is a normal sign of age, and the rooms generally aren't as well maintained as previously.
Fortunately, during my recent visits, the hotel seems to be undergoing revamping and improvement works.
The service is generally good, especially at the Continental Club. The staff are highly attentive and hospitable. However, the staff at Three on Canton are a little less hospitable, but still acceptable.
