Came all the way to this causal Dim Sum restaurant due to the many positive reviews and recommendations by foodies. The restaurant was packed with patrons when we arrived around 12pm for lunch and waited for about 15 minutes before we were given a table. Restaurant was brightly lit but rather clamp, thus not comfortable.
Order was made via filling up an Order Chit, while we were waiting for our table, thus we received our food from their efficient service staffs, a few minutes after settling down. All went well till the food came…
Pan-Fried Turnip Cake served had a firm interior, instead of soft and slightly gooey. Flavours from small cuts of Chinese Saugage, dried shrimp and mushrooms were overpowering the radish flavour.
Fried Dough In Rice Roll had a moist and chewy texture in the middle for their Fried Dough (like doughnut), instead of airy and fluffy texture in the middle of common Youtiao. I may be wrong, as they need not mentioned Youtiao or 炸油条.
Steamed Custard Buns had insufficient fillings thus consistency of sweetness with every bite was absent. The bun although had a chewy textured, but not exactly soft.
Their Glutinous Rice With Pork & Chicken did not have enough seasonings and flavours, thus its too bland for my liking. I took only 2 bites and stopped.
Fried Shrimp Wonton were fried till golden brown and crispy. Fillings included 1 x Shrimp in each Wonton and loose paste.
Pork Congee With Preserved Egg was considered the better dish of all that we have ordered, even though its congee lacks stirring thus it was not silky smooth or packed with flavours from the ingredients cooked together.
Mango Pudding had a firm texture, instead of silky smooth texture that what a good pudding should be. Its not creamy either. Pudding may had been overcooked or due to incorrect proportion of cornstarch or thickening agent.
Overall, we were disappointed with the texture and flavours of those dishes that we had ordered, as they are no better than mass produced Dim Sum, that are readily available in...
Read moreI didn't know this place is so famous. I have tried so many dim sum restaurants but this is the first time am trying this place. Quite shocked to see the queue waiting outside when I arrived at about 1pm. Had to quickly take a number from the staff and wait till the number is called. In the meantime, the menu and order sheet is given so one can decide on what to order and pass the sheet to the staff when seated. The menu on a piece of paper is in Chinese with small English words. It's kinda hard to visualize for people who cannot understand Chinese, they do have a more comprehensive menu where they (I think) almost have pictures of every dish on the menu to help decide on what to eat. Feeling hungry, we did order quite a lot of things to eat for 2 persons and we kinda regretted it because we can't finish everything and had to do takeaway. The Fried glutinous rice pork dumplings was good, one of the best I have tasted, and this is one dish which is not very common in dim sum places. Baked BBQ Pork Buns was not bad, I liked the onion inside, but was expecting the buns to be similar to another famous Michelin dim sum place with a crusty texture but this one just looked like left in the microwave and coated with some oil or butter. The fried egg puff with honey was unique, I don't think you can find it elsewhere. Can be a little messy when eating when you have the honey dripping everywhere. Prawn dumplings, pork dumplings with shrimps and the pork congee with preserved egg was decent. The shrimps tasted very fresh. The bean curd skin wrap with chicken and fish maw is very unique. I loved it and it was very big and delicious, difficult to put the whole thing in the mouth in one bite. I also liked the fried dough in rice roll. Despite putting it for very long the fried dough remained crispy. And as usual, unless you are very early most probably the mango desserts will be sold out by noon time. Worth a try, and they also have opened another branch so its good to...
Read moreMy dining partner and I recently had the pleasure of visiting One Dimsum in Prince Edward, Mongkok, Hong Kong. Despite arriving to a full house, our party of two was seated quickly as soon as a table became available.
Our culinary journey began with a soothing Pork Congee with Preserved Egg, light on the palate but rich in subtle flavors.
This was followed by Glutinous Rice with Pork and Chicken which, surprisingly, reminded me of Tamales. The inclusion of a salted egg yolk added a delightful twist, and I found myself finishing it off in no time!
Next, we savored the Pork Dumplings with Shrimp - generously filled and bursting with flavor.
Equally impressive were the Chicken Feet in Black Bean Sauce, a beautiful balance of sweetness and saltiness, with the chicken feet being notably plump and flavorful.
We also tried the Beef Tripe with Black Pepper, a dish that stood out for its exceptionally tender and flavorful meat.
The Steamed BBQ Pork Buns were a treat, with their tender, slightly sweet buns making them an irresistible delight.
The Prawn Dumplings, or "Hakaw" as known in the Philippines, were a seafood lover's dream, generously stuffed with prawns and tasting absolutely divine.
The Bean Curd Rolls in Fish Broth struck a perfect balance, crispy on the outside yet delightfully meaty inside.
We ended our meal on a sweet note with Mango Pudding, a refreshing palate cleanser that provided a perfect counterpoint to our savory feast.
In conclusion, One Dimsum is definitely worth the wait, offering a smorgasbord of culinary delights that left us planning our next visit even before we left. This place is highly recommended for any dim sum lovers or anyone seeking a taste of authentic Hong...
