🇭🇰 Mong Kok|Poach

Introducing this rooftop, unique and affordable Japanese style restaurant within the most popular part of HK - Mong Kok! Being famous for their Japanese style Ichijusansai and pancakes, I got to try them!

For their ichijusansai, it includes a hot bonito tea soup and three dishes - daily special side dish, sous vide egg and a main. For the main dish, you could choose from six options. They have a unique way to eat this combo, I will have more details about that in the video!

It also comes with wolf berry soy sauce rice, which has quite soy sauce flavour. My sort of comfort food when it was with the bonito tea soup. And last but not least, there is a hot hojicha included as well.

Main dish - Grilled Cheese Burger Steak Really loved how much sauce and cheese they had on top of the steak. The steak was also thick. I personally think it brings out the contrast when consumed with plain yet flavourful rice.

Main dish - Okanomiyaki-style Grilled Chicken Also loved how much sauce they had on top of the chicken. One thing I really loved about this main dish was that it had a slice of pancakes at the bottom, enhancing the combination of savoury and sweetness!

Drinks - Earl Grey Cocoa Never tried the combination of earl grey and coco, it definitely surprised me. With the earl grey flavour being strong, the coco also stood out. It is on the sweeter side of the spectrum. If you do order it with the Ichijusansai, it is half price!

Light Snack - Chicken Cartilage Dumplings Crispy skin with soft stuffings! Also with drizzles of mayonnaise sauce on top, its definitely a great snack to enhance your appetite!

They have indoor and outdoor seatings, it is a perfect spot to hang with friends and have a chill time!

Been to this restaurant a few times. It's quite a decent spot for catching up with a few mates - the drinks and food are alright, nothing to write home about, but certainly above average.

The service, though, is a bit middling. It's not that it's terribly bad, just that the attitude's a bit off - not particularly polite, and overall, you don't get the feeling they're that fussed about having you. Every waiter seems to have this proper world-weary, unfriendly tone.

Even if you've booked ahead and are the first to arrive, they won't give you a decent table or bother suggesting a better spot. The middle section's open-air, so you can imagine how sweltering it gets in summer. They've decided, for their own convenience mind, to claim they "can't shut the door for safety reasons." So if you're sat near the entrance, it's absolutely baking. They don't tell you this beforehand, mind - no signs or anything. But then, when they feel a bit of a draft, they'll pop over and shut it no problem.

If you can put up with the waitstaff and just enjoy your own company with friends, you can still have a...

Went to Poach this afternoon for tea. The service was quite strange in that they apologised when I got up to get my own water from what looked like a self-service water bar. We ordered 3 drinks which are made from homemade syrups. These were quite nice and the compostable straws were a nice touch. We also ordered 2 desserts - Earl Grey Mochi Pancake and the Stout Beer Sourdough with Salted Crème. Both tasted horrendous in that it was rotten and literally tasted like vomit. When we informed the staff, they apologised. They said they would waive the items but when the bill came, they still charged us for one of the food items. We only ate one bite of the pancake before realising it had the same issue and promptly returned it. They attributed the problem to the cream and said it usually doesn't taste like this. Rotten cream can be deadly and they did not take the situation seriously. The cutlery they provided was also dirty. Obviously some serious hygiene issues. Would not recommend.
