I have never encountered such terrible service as at iClub Mongkok, Hong Kong!||Before my initial booking, I confirmed with iClub Hotel Mongkok that we could store our luggage at the hotel as long as we had future bookings. We have booked with them five times since October and have three more bookings until the beginning of December. Previously, we had no problem leaving our luggage at the hotel while we were away.||Today, upon checking in, we wanted to store some of our luggage before our flight tonight, similar to what we had done previously. On November 9th, 2024, around 9 pm, I brought my luggage down to the garage. The security guard informed me that he needed approval from the front desk staff, Billy, to take my luggage.||Billy requested my booking number. I asked him to look it up by our names since we were already checked-in guests. Unlike my experiences at other hotels, where booking confirmation has always been by name, Billy insisted that I needed to take my luggage back to my room, retrieve my phone, and return to show him my booking number. Otherwise, he wouldn't be able to assist me.||I retrieved my phone, returned to the front desk, and presented my booking confirmation, which was clearly CONFIRMED AND PAID. However, Billy claimed he couldn't find my November 25th booking in his system and therefore couldn't store my luggage.||I informed Billy that I had two other bookings besides the 25th. He then stated that the dates were too far out for him to accept my luggage for storage.||At this point, I felt his behavior was unreasonable. I requested to speak to the manager or another supervisor, but Billy claimed none were available and that he was in charge.||He insisted that if I wanted to store my luggage, the booking platform would need to share information with him to confirm my November 25th booking. This was impossible to achieve immediately as we were checking out in a few hours.||I insisted that my luggage would remain at the hotel and that he could take a picture of my confirmation for later verification with booking platform. After a heated argument, Billy reluctantly allowed me to store my luggage.||While the security guard was preparing the luggage tag receipt, Billy and his colleagues entered the garage and accused me of recording our earlier conversation. I showed them my phone's most recent recording, which was unrelated to our conversation. Despite this, Billy continued to harass me with his colleagues present. Finally, I suggested calling the police to help resolve the situation.||Billy's behaviour continued, but once I received my luggage tag, I left him and returned to my room. Location: 4/5 Iclub Mongkok is conveniently located in the heart of Mongkok, one of Hong Kong’s most bustling neighborhoods. It's close to public transport, including the Mongkok MTR station, making it easy to explore other parts of the city. There's also plenty to do nearby, from shopping at the Ladies' Market to dining at local restaurants and street food stalls.
Rooms: 3.5/5 The rooms at Iclub Mongkok are modern and functional but on the smaller side, which is typical for budget hotels in Hong Kong. While the design is sleek and minimalistic, the limited space can be a challenge for those staying with large luggage or expecting more room to move around. The beds are comfortable, and the rooms are clean, though some guests may find the compact bathroom design a bit restrictive.
Amenities: 3/5 Iclub Mongkok offers basic amenities, including free Wi-Fi and a 24-hour front desk. There isn't a restaurant on-site, but with so many dining options nearby, it's hardly an issue. The lack of a gym or pool may be disappointing for some travelers, but it's expected for this price range.
Service: 4/5 The staff is friendly and helpful, providing prompt service when needed. They offer efficient check-in and check-out, and the reception is well-organized. Special thanks to Barry, who assisted us during check-in. He was very accommodating and friendly throughout the process.
Value for Money: 4/5 For its price point, Iclub Mongkok offers good value, particularly for solo travelers or couples who prioritize location over luxury. It's ideal for those looking for a no-frills, comfortable stay with easy access to everything Mongkok has to offer.
Overall: 3.8/5 Iclub Mongkok is a solid option for travelers who want to be in the thick of Hong Kong's vibrant atmosphere without breaking the bank. While the rooms are small and the amenities limited, the hotel's location and cleanliness make it a reliable choice for budget-conscious visitors.
Additional Comments: Unfortunately, on our last day, the air conditioning malfunctioned, which made the room uncomfortably warm. Hopefully, this was just an isolated incident, but it's worth mentioning for future guests to ensure everything is in working order upon check-in.
Another issue we encountered was after checking out — we were informed by the reception that we could not use the restroom due to maintenance work. This was quite inconvenient, especially as we had already checked out and were preparing to leave the hotel. I'm not sure if this was standard procedure or just an unfortunate situation, but it felt a bit dramatic and left us with a less-than-ideal final impression of...
