Ruen, a delightful Thai and Vietnamese restaurant, offers a vibrant dining experience that transports you straight to Southeast Asia. On our visit on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at 5 PM HKT, we indulged in a variety of dishes that showcased the rich flavors and culinary traditions of both cuisines. Ambiance The moment we stepped into Ruen, we were greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere. The decor beautifully blends traditional Thai and Vietnamese elements, with wooden accents, colorful artwork, and soft lighting that sets the perfect mood for a relaxed meal. Food Review Beef Salad The meal began with the Beef Salad, which was a refreshing start. The beef was perfectly grilled, tender, and infused with a delightful marinade that complemented the crisp vegetables. The dressing was tangy yet balanced, enhancing the freshness of the herbs and greens. Each bite was a harmonious blend of flavors that left us wanting more. Stir-Fried Vegetables Next up was the Stir-Fried Vegetables. This dish was a colorful medley of seasonal vegetables cooked to perfection. The vegetables retained their crunch and were sautéed with garlic and soy sauce, providing a savory depth without overpowering the natural flavors. It was a simple yet satisfying dish that paired well with our mains. Massaman Curry Beef The highlight of our meal was undoubtedly the Massaman Curry Beef. The curry was rich and aromatic, with tender chunks of beef simmered to perfection in a creamy coconut sauce. The spices were expertly balanced, offering warmth without excessive heat. Each spoonful was comforting and indulgent, making it a must-try for any curry lover. Tom Yum Prawn Soup We also ordered the Tom Yum Prawn Soup, which delivered on its promise of bold flavors. The soup had a delightful kick from the lemongrass and kaffir lime leaves, perfectly complemented by plump prawns. It was both spicy and sour, embodying the essence of traditional Tom Yum while being refreshingly light. Mango Mojito To wash it all down, we enjoyed a Mango Mojito. This drink was a perfect blend of sweet mango puree and refreshing mint, topped off with soda water for a fizzy finish. It was incredibly refreshing and provided a nice contrast to the savory dishes. Conclusion Overall, our experience at Ruen was exceptional. The combination of flavorful dishes, inviting ambiance, and attentive service made for a memorable evening. Whether you're craving authentic Thai or Vietnamese cuisine or looking to explore new flavors, Ruen is definitely...
Read moreHonestly disappointed with the bad service. The food was average, but it was mainly the service that made dining here an unpleasant experience.
We booked this place to celebrate my father’s retirement based on the good reviews and cute decor in the photos. We were told we would have a dining time of 90 minutes prior to booking, which we agreed to.
We felt rushed as servers started to actively take away our plates when we were still finishing the last bits on our plates. They already started taking our table mats, interrupting us, as we were still eating dessert. This was only one hour into our dining time.
We booked this place to relax and celebrate, but we felt like we were pressured to leave, especially when they gave us the bill without us asking for it (this was only 65 minutes since we had been seated)
Then at 70 minutes, while we were deep in conversation sharing an intimate moment talking with my father, the server told us we had to leave because she had to seat other customers who were waiting outside. The restaurant however, was actually still 40 percent empty, with the inner tables still unseated. We politely told the server that we were still well within our dining time, and would prefer to stay for a while longer. She still insisted that the reason for us to leave is because she wanted to seat other customers.
While all the servers were not outrightly rude, I found this very unprofessional. I understand restaurants hope to seat as many customers as possible, however we were still well within our dining time, and there were still plenty of empty tables.
A note to the restaurant: A meal isn’t finished just because the food and mats are cleared away by your servers. Sitting and talking and enjoying company is part of the meal experience, otherwise your restaurant is no different than a fast food chain. This review holds no malice, but we were incredibly let down and wish for this to be a proper feed back for the restaurant.
a warning note for those who are looking for a special night to not...
Read moreVisited this Thai resto with my friends for dinner, as this combination didn't gather for a long time. . We ordered the following dishes to share: -Sat Ruam Mit (HKD128) Assorted grilled satay skewers with chicken, pork and beef, which came with six pieces. They were well-marinated and meaty, and the satay sauce complemented the skewers well.
-Nhue Yang Takrai (HKD138) Char-grilled beef sirloin wrapped in lemongrass. It was nicely grilled with a tender texture.
-Pad Pak Bong Malajian (HKD98) Fiery Thai morning glory stir-fried with an incredibly aromatic belacan paste infusion. It was savoury with wok hei.
-Pla Neung Manao (HKD238) Smooth steamed seabass infused with zesty lime and fragrant lemongrass. The fish was quite fresh.
-Rad Hna (HKD138) Wok-fried flat rice noodles in thick savoury sauce with chicken. It included ingredients like broccoli, carrot, Chinese kale, cauliflower, etc.
-Chuoi Chien (HKD88) Crispy fried bananas with honey. The taste was not particularly memorable.
-Khao Niao Dam Sangkaya (HKD88) Thai black sticky rice paired with luscious egg custard. The sweetness was just right with well-balanced layers. . The resto has a red and green colour tone with rather dim lighting. Each dining table has an independent lamp, making the place more atmospheric. With a half-opened design, it was a bit cold during that time. . The staff was attentive...
