Thai Restaurant (Jordan) Address: Ground Floor, 141 Wu Song Street, Jordan
On Thursday evening, I made plans with friends to eat in Jordan at Wu Song Street. Since it’s just a few minutes’ walk from the subway station, I’ve fallen in love with this street. In the past two weeks, I’ve already dined in Jordan three times.
The entrance to the restaurant is very easy to recognize because there are two wooden statues of Thai women greeting guests, along with a glass door, which allows you to see if there are many customers inside. It was a bit quiet at the moment, so we went in to eat. The interior is simply decorated, but if you look closely, it has a lot of Thai charm, especially in the walls, tablecloths, and teapots. It feels like a local gem.
We first ordered a large platter of appetizers, followed by three skewers each of chicken and pork, curry soft-shell crab with bread, stir-fried water spinach with shrimp paste, stir-fried rice noodles with tiger prawns, and tom yum soup with tiger prawns. For dessert, we ordered mango sticky rice to finish.
The appetizer platter included fried shrimp cakes, fried spring rolls, fried fish cakes, and fried chicken wings. My personal favorite is the fried shrimp cake because the shrimp paste is thick and elastic, while the outside is crispy. Dipped in sweet and sour sauce, it’s delicious! The fried spring rolls are also very well done, with a crispy and firm skin that doesn’t feel greasy, filled with fresh vegetables.
The stir-fried water spinach with shrimp paste and the rice noodles both have great wok hei (breath of the wok)! The water spinach is stir-fried to a vibrant green and is very tasty; the rice noodles are sweet and sour, and the noodles are distinct and not mushy.
The tom yum soup is suitable for Hong Kong tastes and isn’t too spicy.
Both the pork and chicken skewers are tender, and there are two sauces to choose from.
The highlight: curry soft-shell crab with farmer’s bread. There’s more soft-shell crab than I expected, and the bread is baked to a dry and crispy surface, with a sticky and flavorful sauce, making it delicious. The mango sticky rice tastes great, though it’s smaller than I imagined.
At seven o'clock, there are fewer people, but it fills up quickly. It’s better to go earlier for a more...
