Visit to Ye Shanghai (Night Shanghai) – Restaurant Week Menu ($248 HKD/person)

The restaurant’s decor blends classic charm with modern sophistication, creating an elegant and intimate ambiance. The atmosphere is comfortable and stylish, perfect for a refined dining experience.

Appetizers Drunken Chicken with Shaoxing Wine: Boneless, tender chicken with a subtle aromatic wine flavor – delicious! Chenpi Vinegar Spare Ribs: Though the ribs were mostly bone with little meat, the tangy citrus-vinegar glaze was tasty. Garlic-Marinated Cucumber: Refreshingly crisp cucumber with a fragrant garlic and sesame oil dressing. Smoked Duck Egg (Traditional Style): Creamy, soft-centered egg with a smoky aroma – a standout! Vinegar-Pepper Wood Ear Fungus: Crunchy texture with a light vinegar tang – simple yet satisfying.

Soup Seafood Hot & Sour Soup: Packed with ingredients like shrimp, tofu, and wood ear fungus. The broth had a smooth consistency, balanced spice, and a zesty kick from chili oil.

Main Courses Beef Tenderloin with Crispy Rice Crust (for two): Crispy, non-greasy rice rolls stuffed with flavorful, tender beef cubes – savory and addictive! Sweet & Sour Pine Nut Fish (for two): A massive portion of boneless, melt-in-the-mouth fish in a tangy-sweet sauce, topped with pine nuts – a crowd-pleaser. Stir-Fried Cauliflower: Wok-fried to perfection with bold flavors, light on oil but full of umami.

Dim Sum Pork Soup Dumplings (Xiaolongbao): Thin wrappers bursting with savory broth and tender minced pork – a must-try! Shanghai Spring Rolls: Crispy golden shells filled with seasoned vegetables, paired perfectly with vinegar dipping sauce.

Dessert House-Made Almond Tea with Egg White: Silky-smooth, lightly sweetened almond tea with delicate egg white ribbons – a comforting finish.

Verdict: A delightful Restaurant Week experience with standout dishes like the smoked duck egg, beef rice rolls, and pine nut fish. Service and ambiance elevated the meal. Highly recommend for elegant...

I recently dined at Ye Shanghai, and I must say, it was far from the Michelin-star experience I had anticipated. From the moment we arrived, the service left much to be desired. We waited an agonizing 45 minutes for our first dish and another 30 minutes for the second. With a table of six, the pacing felt more like a Western restaurant, delivering courses one by one, which only added to our frustration. 💔💔💔

When the food finally arrived, it was disappointing to say the least. The dishes lacked any semblance of quality or presentation; they felt more like leftover takeout than a carefully crafted meal. There was no artistry in the plating, and the flavors were bland, failing to capture the essence of authentic Shanghai cuisine.

To make matters worse, when our birthday cake finally arrived, the waitress brought it out with a completely dismissive attitude. It was infuriating to witness such a blatant lack of care and attention, especially in a place that claims to value service. This is beyond unacceptable😮‍💨

Given the long waits, subpar food quality, and the unwelcoming service, I cannot recommend Ye Shanghai. The prices do not reflect the experience we had, making it a regrettable choice for a special occasion. Save your time and money—there are far better dining options out...

Disappointing Experience at Ye Shanghai Kowloong

I recently dined at [Restaurant Name] with a friend, and our experience took an unfortunate turn when the bill arrived. We both paid using our credit cards without scrutinizing the bill thoroughly. However, upon reviewing it, I noticed an item charged that we hadn't ordered. I brought this to the attention of Mr. Desmond, who took the bill away and returned with a revised one. Instead of issuing a refund, he added a charge for hot water after we paid for the bill the firs time, to justify the difference.

When I questioned this, the manager Michael intervened, claiming they charge for hot water. I found this approach unfair, especially from a restaurant of their caliber. Their reluctance to refund and instead adding an unjustified charge left a sour taste. This experience has made me question their customer service and billing practices.

Lesson Learned: Always review your bill carefully before paying. Be cautious of unexpected charges, and don't hesitate to speak up if you notice discrepancies.

Rating: [Insert rating, likely 1-2 stars]

This experience has deterred me from returning, and I advise others to be vigilant...

Food was okay, but I won’t be returning — unless I suddenly crave hair. Near the end of our Malantou, we noticed what looked like fibrous strands… until we looked closer. IT WAS HAIR. Half a cm long, everywhere. Sprinkled like seasoning. The manager explained, rather casually, that the chef had just gotten a haircut before prepping. Seriously? No hat? No hairnet? What kind of hygiene standard is this for a Michelin-starred restaurant? They apologised, waived the dish, and gave us two 酒酿圆子 (HKD52 each). We appreciated that and didn’t make a fuss, not in this economy. But the way they handled it? Like it was no big deal. I once found plastic at a 2-star Michelin and got the whole bill waived. Honestly, I’d rather take plastic. At least it doesn’t grow on a scalp. This isn’t just gross, it’s a potential health risk. Hair carries bacteria, skin particles, even fungi. At this point, I’m not sure if I dined at a restaurant or licked a barbershop floor.
