Ajar Tea House — Restaurant in São Lázaro

Ajar Tea House is a serene spot tucked along the streets of the picturesque area. The al fresco area definitely benefits from the area, surrounded by beautiful pastel yellow buildings and subtle greenery. If the outdoor heat is not to your liking, there is a cozy indoor area where you can watch your tea being made at the bar.

The man behind the bar, Fonzy, was so warm and welcoming to guests and his service was certainly a key part of the dining experience. To help in choosing the correct tea, he offered to let me smell the different tea options that was offered there and was very spot on in his recommendations based on our preferences.

The tea itself is refreshing and contained a rich taste shockingly accurate to the name of its flavour. The standout tea was the Iced Rose Oolong Tea which was perfect for the summer heat. It was paired well with the tiramisu which was not overly sweet with a nice subtle taste...

What an experience it is to sit in the lovely courtyard inside Albergue SCM (Albergue da Santa Casa da Misericórdia) for a drink and coffee under such beautiful spring weather!

The Ajar bar serves exceptionally well—a couple of tables are set up outdoors, and they offer tea, coffee, wines, and cocktails. 🍹

I ordered a glass of Portuguese white wine, some sparkling water, and a cup of coffee.

The server from the Philippines, who has been in Macau for several years and previously worked at Wynn and Galaxy, is now at this much smaller place. However, I think he probably enjoys working in such beautiful surroundings without the hustle and bustle.

The owner of Ajar spoke with me before I headed out, and I had a nice chat with him. He was a great guy and recommended a couple of Portuguese restaurants—super nice!
