The Lobby Lounge at Mandarin Oriental Macau might just be one of the city’s most underrated gems—especially during spring afternoons. Perched above the waterfront with natural light streaming in through expansive windows, the space balances refined calm with a sense of quiet indulgence. It’s not flashy, not loud—just elegant in the way that Mandarin Oriental knows best.
I visited for their Spring Afternoon Tea, served from 2 to 6pm, and it was every bit as thoughtful as you’d expect from a brand that treats tea time as more than just a meal. It’s a ritual, a story told in layers.
The savoury selection was delicate but inventive. The scallop mousse was paired with a squid ink pear purée that balanced sea and fruit in one silky bite. A home-cured salmon canapé came topped with ikura and beetroot purée, rich and briny with just a touch of earthiness. There was a playful side too—like the Impossible Meat Scotch quail egg, which might be one of the best vegetarian reinterpretations I’ve had in a while. And the duo of mini sandwiches—drunken chicken and avocado shrimp—were hearty yet refined, with textures that stood out.
The sweet portion leaned floral and fresh: jasmine tea mousse, matcha-chocolate macarons, coconut sponge with passionfruit cream, and a lemon basil tart that somehow brought brightness and depth in one bite. Classic scones came warm and crumbly, served with clotted cream and two standout jams—passionfruit-orange and a stunning homemade raspberry rose that you can actually purchase by the jar. (You should.)
Tea lovers will appreciate the full lineup of TWG blends, while coffee and hot chocolate are also on offer. The set is priced at MOP 588 for two, which feels well-justified considering the variety, execution, and ambiance.
And if you’re visiting earlier in the day, don’t overlook lunch here either. One of the unique touches about the Lobby Lounge is that it includes signature dishes from other Mandarin Oriental properties across Asia. I tried the Thai basil stir-fry (Pad Krapao) from Mandarin Oriental Bangkok and the fried rice satay from the Jakarta property—both transported me instantly. It’s a rare kind of cross-cultural culinary passport that somehow feels right at home here in Macau.
It’s these thoughtful, borderless touches—paired with warm, personalized service—that make the Lobby Lounge so much more than just a hotel café. It’s where global comfort food meets timeless hospitality, and where tea time is a gentle celebration of the...
