Portuguese Egg Tart = HKD11.00 Each No Service Charge
Eating a Portuguese Egg Tart right in the Middle of Macau, a City which itself has a Strong Portuguese Influence is quite an Amazing Feeling let me tell you that! This is probably as close as you can get to eating a Real Authentic Portuguese Egg Tart without actually travelling to Portugal I reckon!
This is a Very Popular Bakery famous for their Portuguese Egg Tarts and it really was. There really are alot of people but the good thing is because if you just want to try their Egg Tarts, you don't really need to actually sit down to dine in.
Just Simply Dapao and Takeaway will do. Lucky I managed to arrive early. Personally, I feel if you are not here by 11.30pm on a Weekday, the Queue will already be too long. By 12.00pm Noon I feel the Queue would be unbearably long already.
The inside is basically just a Typical Bakery and you just pay for it at the Counter, get a Receipt and pass it to another Staff who will give you the Egg Tarts. Taking Photos of the inside is apparently not allowed but I still snapped a Few Quick Shots to let ya'll get a feel of the place.
I think the Staffs are Portuguese? While they don't speak English, they do understand English, Chinese and Canto. Not Particularly Friendly or Welcoming, but also Not Hostile.
I LOVE that the Egg Tarts are Super Hot and Fresh from the Oven! It's layered like how a Portuguese Tart is usually made, but unlike the Usual Portuguese Egg Tarts I've eaten, the Pastry Skin here is SUPER SOFT, Fragile and Flaky! This is a Very Different Texture Bitefeel from the Usual Ones i've eaten.
Because it was Fresh off the Oven, the Egg Filling within was Super Hot, Super Soft and Creamy. Filling was really Molten Boiling Hot and can Scald your Tongue so Do be Careful when eating this. I felt that while its not Super Sweet, it was a tad Sweeter than the ones I've eaten in Singapore or JB.
Personally, I've always been quite Meh towards Portuguese Tarts but the one here really does taste good. Its that Super Soft Flaky Skin that really hits the spot for me. Perhaps its because they were literally Fresh off the Oven that made them taste So Phenomenal.
I can definitely recommend this Egg Tart as it does taste very good and HKD11.00 (S$2.00) for 1 Egg Tart is a Reasonable Price. But personally I don't think its worth to queue hours for this. Skip it if the queue is too long.

Line was well outside the store (not complaining about the wait. Still was excited to try their egg tarts). Apparently you are supposed to go inside and buy the tarts first and wait in line with your receipt. There is no signage about this anywhere outside. Fortunately my wife caught people holding a piece of paper and asked around to figure this out. When we were finally inside, we saw many poor people who didn't know about this and buy the tickets after waiting a long time (we waited about 30 mins and they were ahead of us) and they ended up at the end of queue again. Felt so sorry for these.
They have no interest in making conversation with you. The only purpose they have is exchanging their tarts with your money. Sure, that's fair. They don't even want to entertain a very simple question. (Just to be clear, they were not busy as tarts were being baked and no one behind us paying for tarts at the moment. While they are being baked, no one is getting the tarts. The person who we talked was literally sitting and doing nothing.) They hold the attitude "if you cannot wait, get out of here". If you want to know how long you might need to wait in line, don't bother asking because the only answer you will hear is "if you don't want to wait, don't wait". We were very polite the whole time even though they don't deserve any. Maybe their English was poor and we should have spoken fluent local language but from their behaviour, no matter which language I speak, I don't think the response would be any different.
Finally to the tarts that seem to be so popular. I am no foody but I found them to be no special to any others that I have tried. For me, definitely not worth waiting for.
As a whole, I would never visit this...
Read moreAs I approached there, I saw huge queues in front of the shop. It was quite messy and difficult to understand what the queues were for. There were no clear indications and the queues were kind of zig zags in front of the small shop. I therefore stood behind of what I thought to be the last person in the line. After hours of waiting, I finally got inside the shop and told the lady I would like to buy 6 tarts. She said I needed to do the other queue as I needed to go in the other queue to pay first. I told her that I did not know and waited so long in the line and if I could just give the money as I saw the cashier was just right next to me. She said no i need to go at the back of the line. But then, I saw the place was dirty and seemed unhygienic when I went inside and I thought it was not worth it to do the queue again. Also they were quite rude to be honest given that they have no indications or signs stating how to buy the tarts. Also the tables and chairs outside looked quite dirty. The tarts looked quite...
