San Martin Restaurante Café — Restaurant in Cartagena

The food was good but relatively expensive. Unfortunately, I have to give this restaurant only two stars because they were careless about my life-threatening allergy. I have a life-threatening allergy to tomato, banana, and plantain. When I travel, since I do not speak spanish well, I carry a card that says my allergies in spanish. I posted a picture of this card below. I gave this card to my server and ordered the hamburger with no tomato (using google translate to say I want it with no tomato: sin tomate). The server repeated my allergies and confirmed that he understood my allergy. Unfortunately, when he brought my burger out it had a slice of tomato on it. I pointed this out and they brought it back to the kitchen and got me a new burger. Thankfully I noticed before biting into it, but this obviously was not an okay thing to have happen. Since they put my allergen directly onto my food it was very clear they took no precautions at all. My card states that cooking staff must change their gloves, clean the surfaces, etc. Since they put my allergen directly onto my food it was extremley clear they DID NOT CARE enough to change gloves for me, wipe down surfaces, or even do the bare minimum to be careful of cross contamintation, at all. Thankfully I didn't have an allergic reaction, but someone who has a more sensitive/severe allergy then me, more than likely would. Due to this I cannot recommend this restaurant, and I would advise anyone with food allergies, food sensitivities, or anyone with dietary restrictions to not go here. Do better, you could kill someone if you continue to be carless...

I am 42 years old, travelled to 50+ countries, speaking fluent Spanish. This is the first time I tried (or better to say tried to try) the food and left the place. I ordered veal steak. I cannot even cut my meat. It was so tough. Once I managed to cut a piece, i tried to chew it without success. They charge 50 k pesos (12 USD) for this. I really hope that someone will close this piece of shame. Thank you for ruining my evening. Staff is another cute piece of truth. She brought me menu in English but asked me about menu in Spanish. I can handle both, bit please be consistent. When I explained the staff the problem with meat, she definitely was not surprised much. Shame!!! The fact that we traveled from NYC to Cartagena with this place in mind… speaks volume. We first found this place in February of a 2023 and we loved it. Now on our return trip everything was just as we remembered. The food, the service, the atmosphere and the location are all excellent. The food is flavorful and fresh. There isn’t anything I don’t like about it. The drinks are well made. They have just the right amount of alcohol in them to make you happy. We love the atmosphere and location.
