ZERO STARS- The owner of "Betty's Bowls, Yo yo hostel, and the "tours"" they provide decided to pick a fight with me about the fact that I didn't want the breakfast that came with the tour. At first I had preferred the breakfast from Selina, but then cancelled that more than 24 hours in advance. I knew there was going to be confusion and I expressed this to the tour operator/agent at Selina.
When I arrived at Yo yo hostel, I was a couple of minutes late and I immediately went about trying to find my tour guide. I also knew I had to eat quickly in case the tour left. I gave them my reciept and was instructed to go to Betty's Bowls to order. I asked if they had options and they provided me the menu. I made the selection and sat down with an acquaintance from Selina and started talking.
About 3 minutes later, a man in his 50s wearing a pink t-shirt approached me and asked if I wanted the breakfast from Betty's or Selina. I attempted to explain to him that I had already ordered here and that everything was fine. He was extremely agitated with me and told me I was being rude. The conversation continued to devolve into an argument. I told him we shouldn't discuss in front of other people and should go outside. Thankfully he did. I tried to explain to him that I was once a business owner myself and that... but before I could say more he interrupted me saying I wasn't "my daddy." He was clearly and extremely angry with me, and by this point I was too. I didn't think I was rude with anyone, but someone else did and he decided to get upset with me, as well as speaking about the mix up from yesterday that I thought Iv had self-corrected. It took 25 minutes for the small smoothie bowl to arrive, and frankly, I'm not going to trust that it's actually "clean."
I had eaten here a week ago and wasn't that impressed, that's why I prefer the Selina smoothie bowl (for comparison). This place is very popular with foreigners because the bowls look good on Instagram because of the fruit decorations. But the substance is lacking.
I decided my tour guide is a decent enough guy. But we'll see what happens throughout the day. As for the owner, I understand that everyone has bad days, but to argue with a customer in front of other customers is really bad. I know, I learned this a long time ago myself.
Go ahead and give this place a try, but you've...

Read moreThere are no words to put into perspective how much I love this place. No wonder Lonely Planet rated them “Best Veggie.” :-) They should open up a school on the art of smoothie/breakfast bowls. Topped with exotic Colombian fruits and edible flowers - each bowl is like a piece of friggin art. Ask for their secret bowls: the activated charcoal, or spirulina (my fave!) If that wasn’t enough, their toasts satisfy every craving you have for crunchy bread with amazing toppings. Avocado toast with a side of salad?! Why don’t all places do this! Last but not least, if you’re in the mood for something refreshing without volume - try their fresh juices. I love the new green juice and their specialty - the Lulada (made with lulo, a local drink from Cali). Yes, they have coffee too and a cute little mascot, Emelia. Say hi to the owners María, Camila and Santiago - their energy and passion for life (and bowls)...
