This place is a tourist trap and the owner (we think) tries to take advantage of tourists. He tried to sell us bug spray when we were sitting down by the water. Originally we didn’t know this was a worker (or the owner) since this happened when we first got there. Then, after finishing our mediocre meal and drinks, we realized who he was when he came down and told us he was only going to accept cash and wouldn’t take a card to pay our overpriced bill. He claimed this was due to the rain 24 hours beforehand. So we all gathered as many colones as we had, which fell short. We then had to do the rest in usd. We did the math and converted what was left in colones to usd. It came to $84 and change. When we went to the cash register, he told us we owed $90 instead of $84 because he uses the 500 colones conversion rate instead of the actual rate. At that point, he didn’t know I spoke Spanish, and I explained this all to him and he agreed. He tried to apologize for not telling us about the card and for charging us more than the conversion rate. Stay...
Read moreBreakfast at Bowie's was the first stop of our trip. Not only was the breakfast great, but Roger and his crew could not have been friendlier and more accommodating. We were a group of 10 on a guys trip traveling from Colorado. Upon leaving, Roger mentioned, if you need anything at all, don't hesitate to reach out. Little did we know, Roger was going to be the saving grace of our trip. The next day our fishing charter fell through and we decided to take Roger up on his offer. He was able to find a local captain for us in minutes--no easy feat for a crew of 10. Not only did Roger step in as our local expert, he was the first stop we made with our local fresh catch after--helping us cook and prepare the most incredible meal of our trip! Whether you are stopping in for Breakfaster or looking to(BYOF) Bring Your Own Fish, Bowie's...
Read moreIf you like getting ripped off as a tourist this is the place.
Is it right on the beach? Yes. Does it have beautiful views of the sea? Yes. Are there cute cats and dogs just roaming around and chilling. Yes.
Will they overcharge you at every turn? Yes. Will they jack up any price of something that is ordered not on menu? Yes. (kids asked for apple juice, they said pineapple was available. Pineapple juice was not on the menu so they took advantage and charged $10 each.)
They know they are doing this, because when the check was given the manager PROACTIVLY explaining what the charge was for each item. He knew I when I saw a $65 bill I complain.
They are a crappy food restaurant that is in a nice location and survive by cheating tourists.
There are lots of pretty places in Costa Rica where you won't get ripped off....
