Anch'io — Restaurant in La Fortuna

We really tried to overlook the spotty service and focus on the lovely atmosphere and some of the inspired dishes but overall we couldn't help be disappointed. Our visit was February 2022. We read many of the positive reviews and can definitely see that maybe we just caught them at a bad time. The positives: the house cocktail was clever, fun and strong. Thumbs up. Though sadly, our drinks did not arrive until the appetizers arrived. The Caprese salad had fresh, thick cut tomatoes and pretty good mozzarella. Not great, but certainly OK. After our main courses arrived, we never saw the waitress again until I approached her to ask for our check. We are pretty easy customers but that was quite off putting. The seafood pizza, like the rest of our experience, was a mix. Some fresh, salty and yummy flavors in an eye catching presentation marred by some sub-par fish-like chewy chunks of meat. Baby clams in the shell and chunks of unshelled crab certainly look interesting but you must pluck them off, shell them and reassemble your pizza. It was a little like the people running the restaurant had never eaten there. We did see many smiling faces while we were there so take our experience with a grain of salt. I will say the bathroom plumbing issue was not a tolerable oversight. Again, maybe just a bad night but many customers would have left. I wish them luck and hope you get only the good parts of...

Food was good but the service was super slow. We arrived around 7:30pm and were seated shortly and ordered a pizza and pasta. We asked our waiter if we could do a thicker pizza dough and she said they could do it. When it arrived the pizza was thin crust and burnt on the sides. However the flavors were really on point for the Bianca Pizza with chicken and mushrooms. The pasta didn’t arrive until 15-20mins later which was strange since it’s usually faster to cook pasta and by then my husband had already eaten half my pizza. We also ordered the mint lemonade which arrived at the end of the meal when we were done with everything which was dissappointing since it was really good and refreshing and we would have enjoyed it more with our meal. Came here for dinner after a long day of hiking. Great atmosphere and vibes. Gives a bit of a more upscale feel comparative to other restaurants in the area. Parking is easy - just off the side of the road or one of three of their parking spots.

Food wise, it was on par with others in the area. Nothing mind blowing but was decent. For starters, we ordered the bruschetta and also got complimentary garlic bread (I think). It was alright nothing to write home about but not bad either. For the mains, we ordered the fettuccini alfredo with chicken and the pesto pasta - which was excellent. Overall nice place and would come again. Giving a four star and not five due to the price. It's obvious that this strip in La Fortuna is the tourist area and prices are jacked up. Otherwise...
