BEERLAND CR — Restaurant in La Fortuna

We came for a few beer as I’m a bit of a Craft Beer fanatic. A wonderful selection of craft beers from around Costa Rica and knowledgeable staff. Nelson, the owner, was incredibly friendly and even opened the service for us and another couple who arrived before the staff. The venue has a menu that changed weekly, this week was the valentines special menu. Although we only came for a few beers we decided to order the grilled chicken wings to share, we were not disappointed! The grilled chicken wings were whole wings (not the drumsticks and flatties we’re used to seeing in North America) and we’re meaty and grilled to perfection. We also enjoyed that they had some games around so we could sip a beer and play Jenga between conversations with other visitors. The craft beer scene in Costa Rica seems to be in it early stages but with a few more venues like this showcasing the unique brews I’m sure it would gain a solid following! If I were staying longer in La Fortuna I would definitely return for a pint! I enjoyed a Lake Arenal brewing lager and IPA, as well as another IPA. The lager quenched my thirst and the IPAs were both pretty solid brews! To note that almost all the IPAs available in Costa Rica are a west coast style with malty/caramel characteristics. My only « criticism » would be the formal/fancy feeling the main menu had which didn’t really match the vibe I’ve come to expect from a Gastro Pub/Draft House. After a few days of traveling around Costa Rica, we were really craving a nice dinner – something like a good steak, and Beerland CR in La Fortuna absolutely delivered! It’s a little hidden gem, tucked just behind a sushi place off the main strip. At first, we were a little hesitant since it wasn’t busy, but the owner personally came out to greet us, made us feel so welcome, and even recommended a signature drink to start. We ordered the ribeye steak and garlic mushrooms, and it was absolute perfection, hands down the best meal we had during our entire trip. To top it off, when the debit machine wasn’t working, the owner was so apologetic and even sent us off with a delicious chocolate flan for the trouble.
