Came here because of stellar food reviews and less than a block from where we stayed. Boy major disappointment. Sushi not very good. Any person who has sushi every now and then and know where to get ingredients can make better sushi in 2-3 tries (because I think most ppl improve in 2-3 attempts on a dish they never made before). They used regular rice instead of sushi rice. The seaweed wrap on the rolls were moist, chewy, and rubbery instead of dry and crunchy. Could not taste freshness, mostly just mush. Soy sauce and wasabi did make it more edible. Also, we (myself and 2 teenager children) were obviously first in line when restaurant opened, were not seated first. Instead, they went to the next party behind us, also party of 3 (Caucasians) and asked them where they like to sit. We are of asian decent. I was furious. My wife just arrived when this happened and asked me to calm down. I told the same person who later seated us that we were first in line. He did not address it, did not apologize. Just said sit anywhere. My wife just told us to sit down. Although our waiter (a different person) was nice and patient in explaining the menu, it just ruined the whole experience for me. Never coming back again, both because of what I see as discrimination, and food not good enough. If you just want to fill your stomach, is Caucasian, and want to support this restaurant, may not...
Read moreFirst, please lower your expectations when you are getting sushi in Costa Rica. You will have an easier time if you do that. The location is right off the street and its a bar style with music at night. The service is alright, on the slower side (but your know it’s a vacation place, what’s the hurry). Didn’t brings water and forgot to bring us the check. I had to ask again and again. Now, the food… you will notice that they have rolls on the menu and almost NO nigiri. There is a reason for that. They are not able to do a decent looking cut of the fish. We ordered the sashimi appetizer. It got on the table and I was shocked. Never seen a piece of cut that ugly in my life. The fish is not fresh enough and the fat tissue between the salmon is breaking down so the cut is falling apart. On top of that, I bet you they also need a real sushi knife. Anyways, not the worst sushi but just adjust your expectations before you sit down. Better yet, go try some other...
Read moreI’ve been craving sushi since I got to Costa Rica and was so happy when I saw this place. Oddly enough it was always almost empty. I decide to give it a shot and I’m so glad I did! I got nigiri and sashimi salmon and tuna, it was so good I ordered a second serving of both as well as the crispy salmon roll and another roll, which was well portioned and deliciously fresh! The service was great (but then again I was the only patron there at the time) the server/manager gave me a free shot of a delicious spicy blend drink (I wish I remembered the name because it was great!) they checked on me regularly and make sure I was enjoying my time.
Growing up eating a lot of sushi this was a good spot with fresh seafood, delicious soy sauce and good presentation. I’m surprised more people aren’t there regularly.
P.S. during dinner time the following day around 8/9pm they started to rack up a few customers. Very much...
