Castello mediteranean restaurant — Restaurant in Dubrovnik

The restaurant is in a great spot right in the middle of the shopping center. Food was fantastic we had a calamari and a margarita pizza and Maria the hostess was so sweet. Now what ruined my Fathers Day dinner (June 15th) was the waiter. For some reason he was so rude to me. May be he doesn't like Egyptians..LOL, I have no clue. He seemed really annoyed when I asked him about the portion of the calamari to see if I need to order something else on the side. And then he had the nerve to come and basically yell at me for having pizza crumbs that my kids dropped on the floor while eating. He thought we were trying to feed the pigeons. Having dinner with a 2 & 5 years old can be a struggle sometimes. It was Fathers Day and I wanted to have a nice relaxing night but he managed to ruin my night so we just left without finishing our meal and I was shocked that he was asking me to leave him a 15% tip while in my opinion he doesn't even deserve a 1% for being rude to customers that are struggling to eat while kids are cranky and crying. I hope the owner reads the review and makes a better choice choosing his wait staff...

We chanced upon Castello restaurant and it turned out to be one of our favorite meals. We have been traveling across Croatia and Slovenia and needless to say we’ve had pretty amazing food experiences everywhere. But Castello was a step above them all. When we sat on the steps leading to the main square of old town Dubrovnik we had no idea what a treat we were in for that night. We ordered A Caprese Salad, Spaghetti Arrabbatta, and Steak with mushroom sauce. The Spaghetti and Steak were so good that we ordered bread to wipe the sauces clean from both the spaghetti and steak. They brought us freshly baked pizza dough bread that was piping hot and delicious. Despite being full to the brim, we both enjoyed every morsel of that bread. My wife and I are world traveling foodies and have high standards for food and service. The staff at Castello was exceptional: attentive but not hovering, knowledgeable, prompt and very kind. We would happily have paid 2-3x more for a meal of this standard. If we visit Dubrovnik again we will be sure to stop by...

Stumbled upon this hidden gem during our trip here. Ordered the octopus salad, castello (the pasta), margherita pizza, black risotto and seabass fillet.

Octopus salad - very generous portion; a refreshing salad Castello - creamy tomato sauce, a little spicy and full of umami Margherita pizza - perfect dough, crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside; toppings were great too Black risotto - mild and not too oily or salty, yet tasty Seabass fillet - flaky fillet with fresh and clean taste

We were pleasantly surprised at how amazing the food tasted. Everything was flavourful and there was not a single bad bite. Best food we’ve had visiting Croatia!
