Ate here a couple of nights ago, I went in with no expectation as was just following my friends suggestion that we try this place out. Everything about Don Armando was amazing. The quaint little area off the street from the many passers by made it am excellent spot to sit and relax.
When we sat down, we were greeted by what we both described as the nicest man ever (the owner), who explained the menu to us. Before even ordering anything, we were both smiling at the service from this man and his own contagious smile.
I ordered the empanadas (which we shared) and the Don Armando Choripan. The empinadas were amazing, pastry with different fillings, each one as good as the next. The Choripan (which as the waiter explained was a combination or chorizo and pan/bread) was even better and left both of us wanting more. We each also had a couple of beers each as well so the total price was quite affordable.
When I went to pay, I was again greeted by the owner/waiter asking how everything was and he was delighted when I told him everything was amazing. We enjoyed the food and atmosphere so much that we tried to go again last night for our last meal in Hvar however he was unfortunately closed. I would highly recommend trying the food here, not only for the delicious items on the menu but also the amazing hospitality and intimate little venue to go with it! 5 stars is not enough, I'd give it...
Read moreMy wife and I were craving some casual South America cuisine for lunch so we stopped at Don Armando's after reading all the positive reviews. Let me tell you, the reviews are not wrong. This is a great place to visit for a meal. Celia, the owner, sat us at a table on the patio and went over the entire menu with us. We started with the beef empanadas which were incredible and left you wanting more. The pastry was flaky, the beef was tender and the flavour was perfectly balanced with the right ratio of beef and onion filling (5). We next each ordered a "Churrasquito de la casa", one beef and one chicken. The bread was fresh and easy to bite into. The meat, both the beef and chicken sandwiches, were perfectly seasoned and all the flavours blended nicely with every bite. The sandwiches each came with a side of fries which were crispy on the outside and soft of the inside, they'd just melt in your mouth (5). I washed my meal down with a nice chilled Quilmes beer and my wife had the "Spritz con Aperol" which she loved. Overall, a great experience and we will definitely return when we visit Stari Grad again. Thank you Celia! ...
Read moreWhat a hidden gem, right off the main square. When more people discover this place, it'll be swamped! Tasty Argentine food, almost all of it made by the staff (except the chips and the veggie burger patty). Plus, they take card payment or cash.
The location is as good as it gets without a sea view; a nice open courtyard covered by an ancient vine canopy, right off the square. Great vibe and ambient music, too.
The staff are super friendly and attentive, taking the time to explain the short menu and check on if you're happy with the meal - though I ate mine too fast for them to have a chance.
We got the regular and the house steak sandwiches and both were amazing. Tip: dip the soft bun in the tasty side sauces! I also really enjoyed the house red wine which helped cut some of the saltiness for me. I did find the chips over-salted for my taste, but everything in Croatia is; what can you say? The country used to get rich exporting salt!
Seriously, best meal I have enjoyed in Croatia so far, and I've had at least ten, including ones...
