So, I've ate in many Greek and cypriot restaurants staying in Cyprus before and also many Greek island. Firstly, I read reviews and came based on those which got me hopeful and excited! We always read reviews and check ratings and plan our restaurants well with our holidays and this was good location central to ayia napa. They have accommodating staff at seating you, although we were Infront of the bar and kitchen which wasnt the best ambience but we were happy to be having a table. but thenI am not entirely sure what happened that night and I'm still annoyed I went, it was our last meal snd I wish I'd of gone to a traditional proper taverna as this I do think is more tourist trap. It isn't family run and can see the staff in chaos. We had a mixed grill and beef stiffado and chicken fillet meal. The mixed grill sheftalia was nice and the pork souvalaki skewer but the chicken pork and halloumi, lamb chop could take or leave it..not seasoned but edible. Chips were lovely though and homemade, salad pre mixed definitely from a bag but didn't mind that but definitely not cut fresh and was dry, not offered any salad dressing and as they were busy I got up to go get my own. The chicken fillet was dry and so asked for a lemon to squeeze on with salt and pepper then was fine. The stiffado was a beef dish in a clay pot expect it was like a pulled beef/jack daniels alcohol flavouring bourbon burnt mess! It was charcoal black on top when served, obviously left in the oven too long and so when I bit into it, it was crunchy and hard with under parts being soft! but the taste was the part that was most off.... A Traditional taverna great reviews and can't make a beef stiffado? Was the most odd recipe, nothing like a stiffado atall and so I decided after the second mouthful to politely let them know. they did offer another one which I declined as they should pay me to eat it! I was hungry and wanted to enjoy a dinner, So instead accepted a alternative dish pork afelia, Again sadly was burnt to the top but it tasted better so ate and haut wanted to leave. Family also tried the stiffado dish and couldn't understand how it can be so wrong and bad, but again they offered to change it and so that was that. But we did also observe the table next to use leave their food and speak with staff so yes it's a shame. Only thing I can assume was, the night of 23/9/24 the chef that has got this restaurant great reviews was ill or away or left! Who knows but it was disappointing and to be honest there are plenty other taverna's with a real feel homemade food cooked with love and correct flavourings so do check as I felt I wasted my money and time...
Read moreWe went to this restaurant tonight after it was recommended to us, I booked a table for 8pm us and then a few hours previous 3 people also wanted to join us so I messaged the restaurant and they replied and said it wouldn’t be a problem and they would extend the table no issues. We arrived for our table to be told that we would have to wait for our table and that they didn’t have one to fit us. I asked nicely how long it would be and the front of house gentleman abruptly said that he couldn’t tell us and to just wait. 25 minutes later our table was ready and we sat down and ordered our food. My two daughters ordered mixed kebabs and the food was brought out and as you can see in the pictures it came out raw the chicken and the pork mince were very red/pink inside so we asked for it to be cooked more. It came back to our table again near enough the same so we had to send it back again but we were nice about it. The 3rd time it came back the same my daughters gave up on it and said they didn’t want to eat as the rest of us had all finished our food. I don’t normally make a fuss but I went quietly to speak to the manager but she had gone so I spoke to the man working front of house. I pulled him aside and said can I have a word with him quietly and I told him that it wasn’t great what had happens. His response to me absolutely shocked me and I was taken aback. He said “I should have just told you not to bother coming and you’ve done nothing but complain and I don’t ever want to see you at my restaurant again”. What way is this to speak to a customer let alone one that has taken you aside quietly, absolutely disgusting customer service! The people inside waiting on were great staff and I couldn’t fault them but the man front of house should be ashamed of himself and should quite simply not be customer facing with that sort of artifice. The service was top-notch, with attentive staff who made us feel very welcome from the moment we stepped in. Our food arrived surprisingly fast, which was a pleasant surprise.
I highly recommend trying the FARMERS COFNER platter for two. It's a culinary delight that boasts an excellent variety of meats, all cooked to perfection over charcoal.
