Cockroaches in the room
We stayed here 3 night but first night we arrived at midnight and crashed beds uneventfully. I noticed a LOT of ants in the kitchen the first morning, I told the housekeeper who sprayed some liquid and went on with her life. She also told me not leave any sweet things, because ants like that (I plead guilty of using a spoon of honey and not correctly washing it). On that night upon return after dinner I noticed 2 small cockroaches (1,5 cm) in the bathroom that I quickly eliminated, hoping the were some distant relative of the C bug and just looked like it. Ants resiliently continued to colonoze also the bathroom & bedroom just like Brits did it to Cyprus, even with no sweet things in sight.
On our last night we got home and encountered the biggest cockroach we ever saw in our lives (6 cm), in our bedroom - so we moved mattresses into the living room, the cockrach turned out to be ill-fated, as my husband after a 2 hour pertinacious fight finally killed it (classic strategy - lights out - wait - suddenly lights on - attack - repeat until death of adversary). During the combat I once went down to reception to get a spray, which was handed to me with the unflintching face of the receptionist, not for one second was he surprised, I was even too tired to notice the cockroach spray bottle has been heavely used since it was less than half empty.
Meanwhile our 5 year old was sleeping is the living room/kitchen (not knowing about the fact that cockroaches actually prefer that area), so I asked my husband to close the curtains in order for our son not to wake up by first light, I wish I wouldn’t have - there it was the other cockrach (5 cm) taking a stroll on the curtain, so my husband killed that one too in a smartly calculated hit-as hard-as you can - move, spalming it on the curtain. Our night in the kitchen on the matresses was not what I was hoping for when I went on vacation, I was sweating from the anxiousness all night and knowing I couldn’t fall asleep. The next morning and also afternoon we approached reception desk, told them about the infestation and had to listen to their lies blaming the “time of the year”, it’s too hot (November), “they flew in, we can’t do anything” (as if 4 different size cockroaches flew in just to meet us and also invited the ants for the gathering), and told us we should have asked for another room - I actually didn’t want to risk going into another room at midnight only to find more undisturbed cockroaches. Last lady talked to was even happy for me that I “just found SMALL AND NOT BIG COCKROACHES” in the bathroom. Yes, I shouldn’t be so ungrateful. Our leave had a happy end at least for the ants, they finally had their big well deserved feast, after having been left without honey, the two corpses of thick cockroaches to gormandize on. I am blaming myself for not checking more rigorously, because I found a lot of cockroach strories on the Advisor site that starts with a T. But honestly I am blaming the 4!!!!! star hotel that has no policy, no higiene and no decency to close down and do a proper extermination. I will request...
