Olio Lounge Bar & Restaurant — Restaurant in Nicosia

The worst customer experience I have ever had in a bar/club in Cyprus. Made a reservation for an event that was starting at 17:00. Our party arrives we’re ready to get in and the bouncer with an incredibly snarky attitude denies one, just one of our party’s member entrance to the club. Why? “Because we only allow 25 year olds and older”. That is the biggest nonsense, no respectable club does this. The party member in question was a man 5 years older than the legal drinking age while the rest of the party consisted of women also the same age and all showed the bouncer ids. Disgusting double standard. No problem getting the girls inside. No wonder why. Disgusting. This is an outdated and frankly sexist way to run your club. I'm giving an overall 5 stars to Olio although some aspects of this exquisite restaurant are worth 4 stars. First of all, the waiters were polite and genuinely friendly. The atmosphere (for dinner) was nice with smart interiors and very tasteful music. Huge variety of wines. Prompt service. Absolutely top quality of sea bass ceviche starter (super-fresh fish and herbs, tasteful, well presented). The slow-cooked pork chop with teriyaki sauce was very good but not unforgettable. And the chicken dish with a similar sauce was the same (very good dishes but not ones that I will be talking about the following day). I’d booked a table for 2, two weeks in advance but they still sat us at the bar. I insisted on a table and after a half an hour wait we got one. We did not get an apology. We got the shrimp pasta and the duck pasta and they were both very tasty so foodwise we were happy. The staff was very kind and knowledgable but they were not organised properly and seemed to struggle. Also our mains arrived just 3 minutes after our starter which is not proper for a restaurant to do. Overall the service was lacking for a restaurant with these prices. I also did not appreciate the fact that the restaurant allows illegal smoking indoors which meant we went home with our clothes and hair smelling of cigarettes.
