Tocayo — Restaurant in Nicosia

Last night, my partner and I had an absolutely fantastic dining experience at Tocayo in Nicosia, easily one of the best we've had in Cyprus!

We shared five dishes:

1. Asian Green Salad

Very fresh, beautifully matched greens with a light sesame oil dressing. A lovely fusion dish and a perfect starter. I wouldn’t change anything about the flavor. My only small comment: the cucumber slices, with their seeds removed, although I understand the reason for this, looked a bit odd visually (almost like they were bitten off), but that might just be me!

2. Beef Tartare

My first time trying beef tartare, and it ended up being the best dish of the night! Absolutely delicious, perfectly balanced, and the main reason I can't wait to dine at Tocayo again. The only slight imperfection was that the end of both cones I had, broke off in my hands (and my partner's too), but it’s a tiny issue in an otherwise flawless dish.

3. Vegan Taquitos

A very close second favorite after the tartare. They captured an authentic Mexican flavor with the perfect balance of taco, chili, vegetables, and sauce. Absolutely faultless, I could happily have this dish again and again.

4. Arrocito

A Peruvian-style fried rice that was very flavorful and enjoyable. It wasn’t a standout compared to the others, but it was still very well-executed.

5. Dumplings

Filled with prawns and served with a delicious creamy sauce. Tasty for sure, though personally, I wouldn't order them again, simply because the other dishes were so outstanding in comparison.

The staff were very friendly and professional, and we really appreciated that a different waiter brought out each dish, a nice touch. The atmosphere and music were also spot-on, creating a relaxed yet vibrant vibe.

Prices were surprisingly low for the incredible quality of the food (though I secretly hope they don't raise them)!

Tocayo is now one of our favorite restaurants in Cyprus.

I have visited tocayo over 4 times and is undoubtedly one of the best restaurants in nicosia. The ingredients are top quality, the dishes are well prepared with attention to detail, the staff friendly and well trained and the atmosphere really welcoming. It is asian cuisine with a twist and if you like asian food you will love this place.

I have tried almost all the dishes and here are my personal favorites from the menu that changes frequently.

Hands down the best prawn risotto in nicosia. Creamy with a slightly spicy kick is a dish that I order every time I go there.

Also the mushroom takikomi is a unique dish with a deep earthy flavor and a delicious corn pure on top with amazing texture.

The ravioli is also some of the best I had and I am obsessed with this dish. The sauce is reach and full of flavor but unfortunately they don’t always have it on the menu.

The fried bao buns are so soft on the inside and crispy on the outside and combined with the pulled pork they make a really comforting dish.

The stake is super juicy and tender m, perfectly cooked, and pared with a sweet and creamy pumpkin puree and is one of my favorite dishes there.

Also, though i am not a big gun of raw fish their crispy tuna and the tuna tartar are excellent and you can tell that they use great ingredients!

Furthermore don’t skip the desserts because they have some unique options to satisfy your sweet tooth.

The only downside I can think of are the high prices which prevents me from visiting more often but I guess you are paying for the ingredients and the thought behind each dish.
