The Thomas Restaurant - Carlsbad / Karlovy Vary — Restaurant in okres Karlovy Vary

It's a shame I have to give this place a 1 star review, but it's basically the principle of tricking tourists. Food is good. Not amazing, but good. They have lunch specials in Czech language only, but their main menu has English and German translations. I used Google translate to try the specials, which were decently priced (135-142KR). We asked for tap water which came with berries and orange slice inside. When the bill came, they charged 45kr for the water and added 10% service charge automatically.

My biggest issue is the automatic charge of the 10% tip. If it was recommended as a tip, that's fine. But to automatically put it on the credit card machine before asking, that's what I have an issue with. I'm an American, so we usually always tip 20% for good service. Once I saw what she typed on the machine, welp, no extra for you guys then. Even with the automatic tip, price still wasn't bad as we got the weekly specials. Stuff in the main menu was 200+ which can get expensive.

Also want to add what other reviewers said about the weird smell: the bathroom had a strange smell. I thought it was the bathroom soap, but the smell was also really strong on the green paper towels. Might just be from hot...

First, the waiter doesn't understand engEngl, he doesn't even know the meaning of ’type of beer ’. Second, I can accept the first point, but he was so imploit when I asked him some questions about Kv this city but he turned around without any reaction, just gave me one ‘cool back’. No sry or ask his colleague to help us. Third, when we would like to pay the bill, he didn't even show the bill to us at first, just dditectly type the number into post machine.... Surely he didn't tell us that we have to pay for bread, also the problem about currency rate. Normally it should be 1:25( in euro), but this restaurant gave us 1:23. If he he told us about this currancy rate , we probably change the way of our payment, but he didn't do thay. Ahhh. ...whats more, this reserturant add 10% of the total as their service.XD, but to be honest, I wanna ask, do u provide any service with us? ...ha , I don't know why this resteraunt can get such a high points and so many recommendation...? Anyone can answer me? Plz just point out one good...

As we came in, the waiters stared at us couple of times and no reaction like: wait a bit or something. We just stood there like idiots for 5 mins. Then I realised I need to ask myself and I did, ok not a big problem so far. Then the waiter gives us a table, which was very dirty. He left and gave us no menu. We waited for 10 minutes there, they gave us no menu. Our waiter was doing everything, but working: flirting with the other waitress, talking to customers, laughing, but not working. Then I decided to wave him in order to finally get the menus and what I get back? He was just waiving to me, too and laughing to me(or at me) and that’s it!

That’s a shame for Restaurant with the railing like that. I just left right away. Sorry, but 15 minutes after we walked in and got a seat - no menu and total ignore. That’s not how it works.
