After 5 years of being a regular guest and visiting Eska pretty much every week, I must change my 5 star review that is no longer relevant, as there has been a “change of concept,” and the change was not for the better.

First of all, I was quite shocked that you can no longer order at the table, but you have to wait in a long queue at the counter, order your meal and pay up-front, and if you want to get something else, you have to go through this uncomfortable process all over again. I personally think that this is ridiculous in this price range. When we asked for the menu at the counter, the waitress just awkwardly pointed somewhere and told us to get the menu ourselves over there, choose our meal standing up and then go wait in the queue and place the order.

But what is the most disappointing about this whole change is that ALL meals are only served until 16:00, so after that time, you can only get pastries and drinks. However, the baked goods were always completely sold out in the afternoon when we visited (happened 4 times already so why not just make more or extend the time frame for the meals?). The cafe/bakery is open until 19, so what’s the point of the 3 hours when you can’t even get any food?

And lastly, they don’t allow you to make a reservation anymore. For us, this is a huge obstacle, as we want to have a place available when we go for a nice weekend brunch, we don’t want to wait for half an hour before a table gets available, so for sure we will rather book a table at some other place where you don’t risk being turned away when you come.

I am afraid that you just lost a very loyal customer, but I guess it’s no big deal for you since the place is now full of tourists who don’t mind paying for a service that does not exist or waiting for an hour before they can sit at a table. Eska used to be my most favorite place in Prague and I am sorry that I can no...

Industrial chic, clean lines, light wood, exposed kitchen, and elevated food that won’t break the bank. It’s no wonder Eska earned Michelin’s Bib Gourmand seal of approval. ⛔️That said, menu items have unlisted ingredients, which for me is a major no-no. I also found their famous buns to be dense and lack luster. Service is exceptional. Not ♿️ accessible (details below).

LUNCH: Menu changes daily, but I ordered beef tartare (300 Czech), sweet bread 66 (sour cream, milk caramel, and fried sourdough for 130 Czech), a cold brew ☕️ (90 Czech), and 3 of their famous buns to-go (their takeaway containers are VERY sturdy, but the buns are just okay). While the tartare itself is delicious and portion generous, the bread came coated with a sauce that was not listen on the menu. And while I’m sure it was yummy for some, I am very picky about sauces and don’t like anything mayonnaise like. Had this been listed under the ingredients (because it was a main component of the dish, I would have chosen something else. And the cold brew is over brewed in my option, so I’d recommend trying one of their other lovely looking drinks.

Service is OUTSTANDING. You’re greeted at the door with the menus and get to watch the bakers at work while you wait in line. Also while you dine. And when you use the restroom upstairs, you can see the chefs working hard on dinner service prep (also an open kitchen). For me, this is the highlight.

Indoor and outdoor seating options.

⛔️ ♿️👂🏼🚽 Accessible entrance and seating for breakfast and lunch (ground floor) but the formal dining area, where dinner is served, is up a large, steep flight of stairs with no elevator. And bathroom is upstairs with no handle bars etc. It’s a little loud, but lighting is good. Cobblestone on sidewalk outside is well maintained and...

My husband first visited Eska as part of his "Taste of Prague" food tour, and loved it so much we went back together a few nights later. He loved the diversity of their foods, creativity, and quality ingredients.

My husband is the foodie, so he had the 5 course tasting menu along with wine pairings. I stuck with a single dish. The meal started with complimentary fresh bread and house churned butter, followed by an amuse bouche of fermented radish (which I liked more than I expected). My husbands 5 courses consisted of:

  1. Steak tartar with smoked mayo and shallots
  2. Carrots cooked in hay with spicy mustard ice cream (this blew his mind)
  3. Fermented wheat berries, egg and a trio of mushrooms
  4. Potato cooked in ash with kefir, potato foam, catfish and dried egg yolk
  5. steak with pureed Jerusalem artichoke, bitter chips, potato and coffee sauce

I had the potato dish (#4) and it was creamy and delicious. We contacted them the day before to make reservation, and the only spot they had left was a 9 PM dinner. Glad we made reservations, as this is a very popular place to eat. The service we had was excellent, and food top notch. For those less adventurous with their food, they may not fully appreciate the food Eska is cooking. My husband loved every minute of it, but I was a bit nervous, as I am a little more conservative with my food choices. However, I LOVED my dish and am SO glad he encouraged me to try something new. Prices were excellent, especially given the quality of food we received. Come here and enjoy, but make sure you have a reservation and...

Eska was the best restaurant I went to in Prague. I got the five course tasting menu, and each dish was fantastic and special, adding a unique flair to Czech cuisine. The beef tartare didn’t have any spices mixed in, yet it possesse a vague smokiness. The accompanying flavors were delicious: hints of celeriac in a bed of delicious mayonnaise of baked garlic that went so well with the beef. The stale house made bread it came on was perfect for the dish too. The grilled green peppers was a seemingly simple dish paired with sour cream. It was sprinkled with dust made from fermented beef that was then dried, adding some essence of meat flavor. It was unique having meat dissolve in your mouth. It’s hard to describe why or how satisfyingly tasty the potatoes in ash is; the dish is not in the extremes in flavor or texture, and feels rather forgettable. The premise of the dish is a creamy potato foam with small bits of smoked fish. Some additional flavors like dried yolk, kefir, dill, and scallion further complement this potato foam. That’s it really, but it’s heavenly. For meat, I had a simply seasoned yet perfectly grilled trout, with amazingly crispy skin and tender meat. The peas that it came with was unexpected but particularly fresh. The satisfying yet light butter base with a couple twists brought it together. The chocolate cake for dessert was not particularly rich in chocolate flavor, rather it came with a bitter and herbal aperitif taste in the layer of cream. It was unique and an outstanding choice.
