We went with my girlfriends to the place on a Sunday evening. He was not very busy. First thing to know for this restaurant is that it is best to call ahead to check they are open. (twice we could not make it for different reasons. We made reservation for 21h but we knew that kitchen closes at 22h so that we would have to order pretty quick. However from the moment we arrived the waiter was very keen to get us out as quickly as possible. So it did not set a very relaxed mood from the start. Then we knew that they were the roof top bar, up the stairs and thought of having a look while waiting for our main. It appeared that the bar and the restaurant are not the same company so we had to either order a drink or pay CZK100 each. We were paying for a nice meal already so did expect to have to pay an additional fee just to have a look around. It should be part of the experience. (Would we have gone only for the view or drinks at the bar I would have understood...) So no roof top view for us.
Food wise it was all quite good, but I wish the waiter would have had more knowledge as to what he served. I asked him what was in the entremets served at the beginning - no clue. Then again when we asked for our main. And we never got our answer. I ate in some pretty fancy restaurant in the past and they always know in detail what is in the food they serve but also if they don't know they automatically go and check for you.
We had the Linguini aglio with roasted prawns - pasta were slightly overcooked, then the slow roasted veal loin and was great, but the side for the beef tenderloin steak arrived cold. And lastly the dessert (apricot tart) was really good.
The thing that made me scream was the state of the toilets: all of them had overflowing bins, the sink was stained and in need of a good cleaning. And considering the standard of this restaurant I would expect some fancy soap and cream.
So overall not amazing but ok and the toilets state are a big no. If they want people to pay top price some major improvement are needed: Waiter knowledge and customer service Cleaning state of toilets Provide a VIP experience by allowing restaurant customer to go to the...
Read moreI was contemplating to whether I’m going to leave a review or not but I think it’s important for me to share my experience. Before going to this place I already informed the resto that we will be running behind because we are coming from another country by train. I was communicating with Barbora through email and she was so kind enough to allow me to order ahead before their kitchen closes at 10pm. I really appreciate the kind gesture of Barbora whom I’ve been communicating with but I did t anticipate the obstacles I had along the way. We arrived at the resto around 10:25pm but they don’t close until 11:30pm. The server whose name was Michael wasn’t in a good mood anymore and when I said good evening sorry we’re late with a little smile, he answered it’s not funny. He said your meals have been sitting on your table since 10pm. We sat and tried to eat but he was already in a bad mood to begin with and so I lost my appetite and decided to just pack our food and paid our meals. I gave him a good amount of tip for his service and for patiently waiting for us to arrive. Nevertheless, I hope no matter what happens, restaurants/servers/managers shouldn’t be rude to their customers at any time. At least I showed up and paid for my meals right? I didn’t leave them hanging and flake on them. I’m taking this as charge to experience. I hope the owner will train their staff properly, no matter how tired they may be, they need to love their job and do their best to be in good behaviors. We are travelers and we were only there for the evening and this is the experience we had in the country of Prague, Czech Republic. How would you feel if you were in my shoes?! My Mom and I with my toddler were traumatized with this experience, we felt racism because we don’t look white, we are Filipinos/Asian traveling from the...
Read moreEven on the seventh floor, Ginger & Fred Restaurant is well worth the elevator ride, and not only for its stunning views over Prague. Everything from venue, staff, food, wine; absolutely everything was top notch. This restaurant is high level, prestigious and elegant. We had to admit that eating here makes for a special evening.
he menu was interesting. With burger, seafood, lamb, duck, steak, and risotto on it, there is something for everyone. We had suprising pre-starter in form of beat foam (amuse bouche). Then we tried crispy catfish with potato salad and pan seared calamari, and shrimp with confit fennel and potatoes. Both were delicious. As our main dish, we had s very tasty whole roasted sea bass with baby spinach, shiitake mushrooms and smoked peppers, and the sepia spaghetti with grilled octopus, calamari and shrimp, dried tomatoes, celery and crustacean sauce that melts in the mouth was amazing. The dishes came out as miniature works of art, but unlike some fancy places, the portions were decent, even generous. We decided to share one dessert, the Trio of Crème Brûlée, as our bellies were full after our starters and mains. We could not resist entirely.
It is not a cheap dinning, but also not over priced for the location and quality of food. Even if you travel on low budget, this restaurant can easily be on your list because they offer a lunch menu (main for around 100CZK) during the workweek. Please, keep in mind that the restaurant is located on the 7th floor, so you will not see it when you are passing around. Also making a reservation before hand might be a good idea.
Only minus was little a bit dirty bathroom. This should never happen and definitely not in the otherwise...
