For anyone not wanting to read the long version: pizzas are good, but service overworked and (therefore?) rude, rushing you, not relaxed atmosphere
I have to preface this review by saying, never once in my life have I written a bad review, but I did review all the other places in prague we went to, so its only fair not to leave it out.
The pizza is really, really tasty and the kitchen is great. However, if you want to enjoy a nice relaxing italian evening, that’s not the place, at least not until they get more (friendly) staff.
My boyfriend and I made reservations, as it was our anniversary. After getting there we were left sitting at the table for over fifteen minutes with no greeting or drinks. That was already odd and not quite a warm welcome, but I put it down to the service being overworked. When we ordered drinks, we were also immediately asked about food. We said we would order in a minute because we first wanted to enjoy our special night with an aperatif (for which we had waited quite a while). It felt rushed.
When we had our starters, in the middle of the meal the waitress came and said the pizzas were ready. It was in the middle of our meal? It was obvious we weren’t ready. What were we supposed to do ? Chug our expensive carpaccio down in one bite ? We told her we needed more time. A few minutes later ( we were still eating) a chef from the kitchen came out with the pizzas and tried to get us to take them now. As we were still eating and we didn’t want cold pizzas, we told them 5 more minutes. After five minutes the waitress came and just told us they were making new ones, then she just left. So you really have to give them that, the pizzas were really good and they would not let us eat cold ones! After that we were never asked about drinks or anything again. All in all it was quite rude. It was obvious they made the pizzas way too early, and instead of owning up to their mistakes they blamed us for it and tried to rush us to eat it then and there. If they would have just owned up to their mistakes and not pressured us to eat it in the middle of our appetizers, all would have been good! We understand service is stressful, but it really was the worst service we ever had, we felt really unwelcomed and like a nuisance (which normally as people working in gastro we really arent)
So pizza good, service not. Maybe just dont go there for an anniversary dinner. Good take away option.
(my boyfriend works in gastro too, normally you just have to put them in when the guest have finished their starters, it takes...
Read moreI would have loved to try this restaurant as its food seems good, but I’m giving my review based on the first impression. I should have probably sensed that from the huge spider (and its web) at the restaurant’s entrance door. The waitress was extremely rude and treated us in a demeaning and disrespectful way, as if we were beggars. She said they were full and there was no way to dine in tonight (it was only 8:30 PM and the restaurant closes at 10:30 PM). There was an empty table for two that would have fit us if 2 of us sat on the sofa but she said their plates are too big to fit on the table, which doesnt make sense. I agreed to book for the next day but then decided to give it another shot and asked again. She said I could wait outside but couldn’t give an approximate time for when a table might be ready—as if she couldn’t estimate when certain tables would finish their meals or desserts. That, to me, showed poor management.
A table nearby asked for the bill, and instead of letting them leave, the hostess asked them to remain seated and probably offered them free dessert, all while knowing how persistent we were to try their food. I then spoke to the manager, who gave us a mixed feeling of rudeness and forced politeness. When I mimicked how the hostess had spoken to me, she responded with, “Please don’t speak to me like that.” If she doesn’t like being spoken to that way, then she shouldn’t accept that tone from her own staff. She said the hostess was correct and took no accountability for how we were treated—instead blaming it on being overworked/understaffed.
I know the restaurant doesn’t need me, and I don’t need them, but kindness is free. A simple explanation of how the restaurant’s system works—with a smile—could’ve avoided all of this. We were respectful until it became clear that they weren’t planning to welcome us. Was it racism because of the hijab? Maybe.
Anyway, I ended up going to another pizza restaurant, POINT, where I had an amazing night with delicious pizza and drinks. When I mentioned this issue to a local, he said the food at that restaurant is amazing, but the staff are known to be super rude. For me, a restaurant’s branding goes far beyond the food—customer service and communication are...
Read moreCame here twice in one week and left with decidedly mixed feelings. A place is charming, cozy and always full (reservations required!). The atmosphere is great, with a genuine elbow-to-elbow Italian feel (if you enjoy that) but less noise :-)
Taste seemed to vary strangely from dish to dish. After two visits, I can say that the good parts can be put down mainly to quality ingredients. Pizza (we ordered Alla Giorgio the first time we ate there) was unexceptional, and the filling was heavy on olives but light on mozzarella and anchovies. We also ordered focaccia: it was brought very late (after everything else) and was basically a Roman-style pizza bianca. Buratta, on the other hand, was truly sumptuous.
2nd time we skipped pizza (strange thing to do in an establishment which calls itself a pizzeria) and got better food overall, including proper focaccia this time. But waiters made four mistakes in our order (too many for a party of three, don't you think?)
But I don't blame them: they are severely overworked. The house is always full: two levels inside, plus a few tables up on the street, and there are only two regular waiters! Really pleasant and helpful guys, but they are worked to the hilt. Cooks, probably, too: they seem to work under immense time pressure—that's why taste fluctuates and is oftentimes off. It's a...
