We heard this great place where you can select your own tapas and wine from huge selection and even bring it home, so we had to go and check it out. There was 10 of us when we entered the restaurant and we found the table that was reserved for us. Place was big and reminded me about medieval times, all kinds of small counters around the walls and lots of people crammed in tables in the middle. Deco was rustic and there was huge heaters on the ceiling that if you sat straight under it, you had authentic experience from dantes inferno. (yes I was the lucky one.) We waited for waiter because we didn’t know how things work here but soon we realize that there was no waiter to come and help.
Ok so let’s try to figure this out, menus were on the table and had selection of different kind of foods and some wines. But where is all that huge selection of wines and cheeses etc that was promised to us? There was door in one corner that people seemed to fancy and behind if we found shop. Ok so you go to shop and say that you want to buy stuff to our table, not to go. Then you select bottles of wine that you want, and how much cheese, olives, wine leaf rolls etc you want and take those to your table. Well that worked fine even thou some pointers from staff would have been nice that things work like this here. After sharing delicious tapas and wine we started to crack the menu again.
Menu wasn’t big but there seemed to have little bit something for everyone. All those small counters on the side were individual kitchen that each one made specific foods from the menu. Our 10 people group scattered around restaurant to order foods that we want and paid them immediately on same counters where we ordered it. They gave us big wooden spoons from each order so when foods were ready, they knew where to bring them. At this point we had about 6 spoons in the table and immediately when first food arrived, person who brought that complained that we have too many spoons on our table. That we should have order 1 dish at the time and take that same spoon to next counter when ordering different dish, so there would be only 1 spoon. Well that would have been great and jolly if someone would have told that, or anything else how things works in here.
Although the problem would have been huge for 10 people to go and order/pay individually and pass the spoon for the next person cause it would have taken so long, that the first dishes would have been already done and they would have not known where to bring it because 8th person was carrying that spoon around the restaurant like Olympic torch. Foods came to table really quick cause when I ordered mine, I went to pick up beer from another counter and by the time I was back on the table, there was pissed waiter waiting and complaining that why the spoon wasn’t on the table.. Well didn’t realize that my food would be done in less than 5mins. Dishes were good but some of them bit bland. Pizzas looked awesome and If I ever go there again, I will try that wood oven pizza.
Overall: stuff from shop, absolutely delicious and reasonably priced wines. Dishes were well made and many of us liked it, some of it were bit bland. Service (if you can call it) was rude and adequate. Idea behind this is truly great but execution seemed horrible. Or then we were just stupid tourists that...
Read moreI visited this place on more than few opportunities in past years and I was always pleased with my visit. Last evening we went to the place with my coworkers to enjoy the night "as usual".
Introduction to the place is still done nicely by waitresses and those were definitely a highlight of that evening. Everyone was really friendly and served drinks appropriately.
One can accept higher prices which are justified by higher quality and experience - visiting such place should be (and was) a joy worth paying for extra. If the place offers bottle of nice champagne worth CZK3000, you know you're in good hands.
Since I am a burger lover, I was enticed by offered Italian variation of this meal with extra baked potatoes. I had high hopes of the promise of smashburger from selected beef. While we were waiting we had an appetizer in form of cheese selection plate with local bread and that was really nice!
To my extreme disappointment, what I got on my plate later was just a weak parody of a burger. With two tiny patties not resembling anything to do with "smashing" - I received two overcooked dried pieces of minced meat with no real flavor, hiding in a middle of large bun, trying to hide the content. And the side dish in form of baked potatoes looked like the remnants of yesterdays party, scrapes from the bottom of a pot - it looked like side product of trainee cook. I actually felt embarrassed for waitresses to serve such a meal for a very inappropriate price of CZK400 + CZK150.
My colleagues ordered mixture of meals - pizzas were looking nice, salads as well - nobody ordered any fish that evening. However there were some steaks on the table and look at those made me feel sad and I almost started to cry for animals butchered - to be overcooked and dried to infinity and again - for 300g steak worth of CZK1500 this was simply unacceptable dining experience.
After main course we had some deserts and those were definitely the best we that evening, Tiramisu and chocolate cake - cannot complaint at all.
After we left the place I couldn't not notice the smell of a kitchen on my clothes. The restaurant proudly shows cooking process - which is cool of course - but to smell like year old burned oil isn't really what you'd like to left with.
As stated above - so far I only had great experience with the place. But after last evening, I'm starting to doubt I will ever visit the place ever again. Maybe I was just unlucky - still...
Read moreThese guys seem to be a victim of their own success, the service staff seem to be arrogant enough about the food and place that service is utterly unimportant. Ive heard a lot about Winefood from friends who have been there just as it opened and said the food was great and genuinely a great experience. However much I like the food it was overpriced for what it was, pizza for 280czk but nothing special, pasta for around 300czk and again nothing special. And then a 450czk steak that was very good but reflected in its price. But then came the bill, they charge the 450czk for the steak and then a 100czk "service for meat prepation". Are you kidding?! So the cost of the steak was not including the chefs cutting of the meat and cooking? Why not just charge us an extra 30czk for the barman for pouring the beer, or an extra 50czk for the waitress because she had to carry the plate. Arent all these charges supposed to be part of running a restaurant and then pricing the food accordingly?
And worst of all is the service. 5 of us ate at the restaurant and all left infuriated by the sheer smug and arrogant attitude of the staff. The guy serving us was abrupt and really couldnt give a monkeys about our evening. The waiter rolled her eyes at us when we said we needed an extra minute to count the cash of a 3000czk meal. Whats the point in these people even working here if they hate it so much, because they a ruining your business and only carrying plates, collecting money and pissing people off. The taste and quality of the steak is the only thing keeping me from a 1* review.
Sort out your service, or you wont be around long because we for sure will not be...
