I can only highly recommend Bangkok Canteen to all lovers of great (Thai) food. On the first glance the minimalistic place may remind of the shops that mostly do delivery - don’t let yourself be fooled by that; the way the owner handles the small dining and kitchen space is truly a joyful experience. The menu is on the small side making sure that everything is freshly prepared, of best quality and cooked to perfection. We came for the first time and had the red curry with tofu and the Tom Yum soup and were so impressed. Best curry I’ve had in Copenhagen, maybe even in Europe? Creamy, hearty, with a subtle sweetness. And the tofu was the good Asian supermarket kind and fried before added, not the lazy way that other Thai restaurants in Copenhagen seem to be doing where they just slide super dry and tasteless tofu from package directly into the dish. I asked for extra spicy and we got extremely spicy cut chili on the side so we could adjust to our own liking. Even though the owner was busy with cooking for other guests she was more than happy to recommend dishes and make us feel welcome. The iced coffee cut excellently through the spices and was a real treat. I can’t wait to go back and try...
Read moreWhat a hidden treasure. As we Googled this place, we saw it only had 9 reviews but each one was a 5 star. We had to take a taste. We are from the US and Thai food is very good there… I wasn’t so sure how it would be here but I really wanted Thai food. We walked up and saw that it was a one door small restaurant… okay no big deal. Some of the best food we’ve tried comes from small businesses. We walked in and was immediately greeted by Michael the co-owner. A small family business whereby his Thai wife, “A” is the chef. Now I knew this was going to be good. I ordered the Thai noodles with shrimp. Delicious and the shrimp was fresh! I also ordered the tempura shrimp… again, fresh and delicious. My husband ordered the red curry chicken. Can I say wonderful. Portions are large and rice is plentiful. We were there late so we had the place to ourselves. There is very limited seating so if you go during rush hours, seating might be a challenge. If we were staying longer in our visit to Copenhagen, we would definitely go back once more. They have only been opened since July so they are building up their reviews. I’m glad I had a chance to help their...
Read moreAs two hungry Americans visiting Copenhagen, we had a real desire to get some authentic Thai food during our stay. We found this little gem, Bangkok Canteen, via the web. It had only 5-star reviews and was a short walk from our hotel. Having lived in Southern California for many years, we have had our share of excellent Thai food. We found Bangkok Canteen to be right in line with the best food we've ever had. The owners, Michael and "A" were so very gracious and welcoming. Michael served while "A" (sorry, not sure how to spell her name correctly) was in the kitchen preparing our delicious meals. We started with the tempura shrimp, which was delicious, It was fresh with a light, crispy batter. I had the red curry (w/chicken) and my wife had the fried noodles w/shrimp. Both dishes were excellent; flavorful and filling. My only regret is that I should have asked for my curry to be a little more spicy (hot). Bangkok Canteen is a small, family run operation that just started in July 2022. If you want authentic Thai with friendly service at a good price, visit this hidden gem and you won't be...
