Update 13/05: I have not received any response on the email I had send on April 25th, as per instruction in the reply of this review. -------------‐----------------------------------------------------- Based on the many positive reviews, we were genuinely excited for our evening at Restaurant Radio. The idea of enjoying modern Danish cuisine really appealed to us—especially since Nordic cuisine isn’t something you come across every day (even in Copenhagen, funnily enough).
Upon arrival, we were greeted politely and asked to walk to the back to hang up our coats ourselves. Right away, we noticed an odd smell lingering in the restaurant. We suspected it was coming from the bathroom, even though we were seated across the room from the door, which had been left open. After closing it ourselves, the smell improved slightly but returned every time someone went to the bathroom.
As for the food—unfortunately, this is where our disappointment truly began. We opted for the 5-course tasting menu with wine pairings, hoping for a memorable dining experience. Based on the photos we’d seen online, our expectations were high. Sadly, the food didn’t live up to the visuals.
Course 1: Tomatoes in a shrimp sauce with some crunchy elements that turned out to be shrimp scales. While the flavor was okay, we were confused by the absence of actual shrimp. We were told the scales were intentional and meant to add texture, but we found them unpleasant (and sharp…).
Course 2: Potato. This dish was fine with an acceptable balance of textures and flavors, though nothing particularly special. It was an improvement over the first course, and for a moment, we thought the initial dish might have just been a misstep.
Course 3: Halibut. Visually impressive but overwhelmingly salty. While we’re no strangers to seasoning, this was excessive. The fish itself was good and the grilled elements added nice depth, but the large chunks of spring onion were difficult to cut, forcing you to eat them whole. The wine pairing helped cut the saltiness slightly but wasn’t enough to redeem the dish.
Main course: A celeriac “steak” served with just a few berries. The texture was pleasant, but overall it felt more like a side dish than a main—lacking both substance and balance.
Dessert: Apple compote. Decent, but nothing memorable or particularly exciting.
Unfortunately, the wine pairings were also underwhelming. Not only did they fail to complement the dishes, but they also weren’t particularly enjoyable on their own. AND to top off, they refilled our half full waterbottle without asking and charged another 35kr for this and we ended up with another half full bottle.
All in all, we left feeling disappointed with the overall experience. With mostly glowing reviews and an intriguing concept, we had hoped for so much more. Sadly, it just didn’t live up to the hype, and we felt compelled to share our...
Read moreI have been wanting to try out this place for a long time so I decided to give myself a pre-birthday treat. I chose a 5-course meal and requested for dishes to not have any cheese. The service staff was kind enough to explain how and what cheese would be included in the dishes before I confirmed again that I would not want any of it. Then minutes later, a young chef came over and asked if it’s okay for me to have cheese in the dishes. I said no, and he asked me why I did not want to have cheese. Okay…..this was the first time to have such a question asked to me by a chef…he didn’t even offer any substitute of ingredients but told me to have a 3-course meal instead…very arrogant and unprofessional of him to ask why customers have dietary restrictions and also not willing to tailor to their dietary needs. Customers are not obliged to answer those questions as they can be personal or sensitive info and didn’t your website allow us to state our dietary restrictions without asking us why?! I was put on the spot and didn’t want to get probed further by him. Finally I told him that I would try and he walked away with an unhappy expression. Literally 2-3 seconds later, the dish with cheese was out on my table. This showed that he didn’t really bother accommodating to my request. I ended up forcing myself to swallow the food without gagging. Did I enjoy myself? NO
Except for the first snack, other dishes were so-so. They didn’t ‘blow my mind’ with their taste profiles, and lacked creativity. It almost felt like the ‘brains’ behind the menu were ‘tired’ and rigid.
I overheard a customer telling his friends that the menu was fixed and they should try it with an ‘open mind’. Some may agree but many will disagree. I definitely didn’t come to the restaurant wanting to have an open-mind because they are not serving exotic cuisines or insects/bugs, but I was rather seeking for or expecting a kitchen with talented people who have pride in what they do and give their best to the customers (like how it’s described on your website) and not some arrogant chef who is unwilling to substitute ingredients to suit the customers’ dietary needs. Very disappointed especially when I’ve travelled all the way to Denmark to finally try their food after an almost...
Read moreFine dining disasterclass. We arrived in a nearly empty restaurant. Only one other table. Not a problem ofcourse. We chose the 5 course menu and I told the waiter my girlfriend doesn’t eat fish. He looked surprised and was going to ask the chef if that was possible… bit weird since we expect this to not be a weird question when having a course menu only.
The dishes were small and just to simple for the price (€230 for 2x 5 courses and 1 bottle of wine). They seemed to be in a a rush to go home because after every last bite the new dishes were served.
The bite and starter tasted good (bell pepper soup) but the third dish was grilled leek and was just prepared badly. The leek was undercooked and hard to chew and we told the waiter. He asked the chef and told us it was supposed to be this way but they had done it again and cooked it longer for us. I’ve had this dish in multiple restaurants and this was just very undercooked, chef probably didn’t try himself but still felt urge to argue our point. Then the maindish came (white fish with glazed carrots and carrot purree and buerre blanc). Fish was tiny and my jaw dropped when I saw they’ve replaced my girlfriends fish with… a piece of pumpkin which didn’t have any seasoning. She now had a plate with pumpkin, carrots and carrot purree as main course…. Again we told the waiter but they had no good argument for it and didn’t seem capable to fix it. My girlfriend now had 4 simple vegetarian dishes because she doesn’t eat fish.
The chef never came to the table to explain, apologize or discuss eventhough we were the only table in the restaurant. We send the maincourse back and didn’t request a new one. The desert was good but again, tiny. As soon as this was served the kitchen crew was gone. It was us and the waiter in the restaurant. We finished and left very unsatisfied, still hungry and €230 lighter.
Just not worth the mention. And definitely not New...
