Dolce Italia Plaza Turquesa — Restaurant in Higüey

Please do not go here!! Me and my family went, we were unfamiliar with the area so we tried this place because they told us they had the best pizza and pasta in the area. It’s cute enough inside and the servers were nice but Three of us got margaritas and they were seriously terrible. It tasted like water. We are not picky people, the drinks were seriously beyond atrocious The food was either mediocre or ghastly. I got the carbonara and it tasted like charcoal. Again, I am not a picky eater but it was inedible. The pizza was pretty good and they had some ravioli that was pretty good was well. My mom got the shrimp dish, because it was one of the only gluten free options, and she got incredibly sick for the rest of our vacation (4 days), and had to be put on antibiotics. It was pretty expensive, and certainly way too expensive for the quality

We’ve just finished an 11-night stay in Punta Cana, and Dolce Italia at Plaza Turquesa quickly became one of our favourite spots. From our very first visit, the staff, especially Aris and Ariel, made us feel incredibly welcome. Their friendliness and attentive service kept us coming back—five or six times in total!

The food has been consistently excellent, with every dish prepared to perfection. It’s rare to find a place where both quality and value are spot on, and despite the added tax and service charge, we felt the prices were more than fair for the amazing meals we enjoyed.

The cocktails have also been fantastic, and we’d definitely recommend trying the Dolce Italia cocktail—it became one of our favorites.

Full disclosure I own a restaurant in the US and it’s very painful for me write a non-positive review, but I just have to in this case.

The food is good Italian for sure. Cooks really know what they’re doing and the recipes are really solid.

But all the customers are unhappy and bewildered in here - 30 minutes to get a drink - missed items in our party (my daughter and I got our meal but they somehow lost my wife’s and it was another 40 minutes wait for that. Ask for check and after 40 minutes I walked in back and said I’m paying right now or leaving. They took my money and instantly there was a line it other customers doing the same thing after they saw me do it.

In my experience this is a management issue big time and it’s a shame because it could be a great place.
