Kat's Corner — Restaurant in Higüey

Service is horrible. Arrived at this restaurant, there was no greeting, no direction, my husband and I had to sit ourselves. We watched several waiters pass our table without acknowledging us before a gentleman came over. He took our food order and walked off before we could give our drink order. When he returned, he was bringing our food. If you've eaten at a restaurant in the D.R. you know service is naturally not fast (but the people are really sweet and food is fresh) hence it was a long time before he returned to our table. As a couple that has traveled all over the world, we have learned how to adapt to culture quickly and not assume our American expectations when visiting other countries. When we received our food, we had the wrong order. In addition, we ordered a fruit plate. At the time we ordered, the waiter told us they were out of mangos, we asked if they had strawberries and he said yes. When the fruit arrived to our table, there was no strawberries, only papaya, watermelon, pineapple and banana and the fruit wasn't fresh (not having strawberries was okay, but not having fresh fruit is not). The waiter gave us the fruit like this is what we have, deal with it. There are so many places to eat at to get the food and the experience you are looking for. Not sure if you will get it here. I used to do reviews after just one visit, now I go three times because threes a Charm. So my first visit was four weeks ago and I have to say, they have one of the Best tasting Cheeseburgers that I've ever had in my Life. Better than any Burger joint in the USA. Way better than the burgers served at Hard Rock... And the fries were to die for as well. I had a Pina Colada and it also was equally delicious! A few days later I returned with my wife and had the same meal, however they had replaced the fries with fries that were supposed to be crispy... Instead they were hard, too hard to eat... I thought we'll it must be they ran out... Two days later I go back and order same meal... Same hard fries came out... I ate the burger, not the fries. Then I asked to speak to the manager and explained how I love the food service and atmosphere however the new fries just ruin the meal because they're so bad. He consulted the chef. Then I was told to return the next night, which I did and my fries would be perfect... And they were! In conclusion I Highly recommend Kat's not only because they are Superior, but also because they listened to me and corrected a menu item that could easily...

The food was good, ambiente was nice. I think most staff is friendly as well but the guy who served us was absoluetly unfriendly, at least to us. He did not once looked at us or spoke to us. My partner can speak spanish so I don't think it was the language barrier. We did not feel welcome there. I asked what the 3 ingredients in the omlette were and he said it so quietly nobody could understand it and didn't even look at me. I then asked if it is possible to make the omlette without meat and he just said (very harshly, almost pissed, it was the tone for me) "no". I understand that it is not always possible to leave out ingredients and make a dish vegeterian but I would have hoped for some cooperation or other possibilities.
