The Grill Dining & Lounge — Restaurant in Cairo

My family and I were very kindly booked for a reservation at The Grill inside the Intercontinental Hotel in Cairo by our very helpful and friendly concierge at the Kempinski Hotel.

The Intercontinental boasts of high class and modern decor However, unlike the Kempinski where staff are at your service, we had to approach the sleepy staff to enquire about the whereabouts of this Restaurant.

After arriving at the restaurant, we were casually taken to a table and this is when the cold experience of this massive hotel just got "colder." We were the only table at the restaurant. We ordered a steak and a tomahawk which took an hour to be served whilst we were told would only take 20-30 mins.

The food was average warm but the side dishes were very cold. We brought this to the managers attention who then offered for the side dishes to be replaced. We reminded the manager how long we waited for the food and that the replacement would then be of no use as our steak and tomahawk would be cold. The manager walked away without informing us what the outcome would be.

After we had finished the meal apart from the side dishes, we sat for the dishes to be cleared whereupon replacement side dishes arrived. We stated that we had finished our meal.

After much to and fro which took over half an hour about our dissatisfaction we were then met with the duty manager who said he would kindly offer us ice cream to rectify the matter as if we were 5 year old kids. I brought my age to the duty managers attention as I am a man of 51 and not a child who is being offered ice cream.

The duty manager was as unprofessional as the rest of the staff and went away to think about what decision to take and this wasted more of our time.

After much negotiation as duty mangager and manager insisted we pay the full amount, we were offered a 30% discount but were only given 25% after I corrected the whole staff's calculations to be incorrect but they seemed to think they're calculations were correct (I think a crash course in simple maths would be a great help for this staff).

We paid and left and then were chased by both managers to the lifts for yet more money which through embarrassment and to end the matter paid what they asked for. We are totally scarred by this so called joke of an establishment called Intercontinental!

The restaurant was inside the Samir Amis hotel, at the 3rd floor. And I must admit that the view was very nice, a lovely yellow romantic candle lighting infused with the deep blue color from the Nile view, what a beautiful view! The atmosphere was very calming, the hygiene level was perfect, the service was very good! The waiters were very friendly not only towards the foreigners (as the place was crowded with foreigners) but also to us Egyptians. However, if you are going there for nice dinner/lunch the food was (at least for my taste) not that good at all, I ordered one smoked salmon and chicken stuffed with caramelized onion for my fiancé (I forgot the plates name I am sorry) and I tasted both and both were very bad to my taste (I thought I ate boiled food!) I couldn't taste any smokiness to the salmon however the sauce underneath the salmon was tasty, I must point out that I am not used to eat French food before! Maybe this is how it tastes (but compared to our Egyptian taste I didn't like the food at all) the quantity of food was actually very good and fulfilling, the prices (as predicted from a fancy restaurant inside an hotel) were acceptable (maybe slightly high) but for the service and the view it...

I had a wonderful dining experience at the Grill Restaurant in Semiramis Cairo. From the moment I arrived, the warm hospitality and professionalism of the team made the evening truly special.

A special thanks to Waleed and Mohamad Hussain, who went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect. Their attentiveness, knowledge of the menu, and friendly approach made the experience even more enjoyable.

The food was excellent, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. The atmosphere is elegant yet welcoming, making it a great place for both special occasions and casual evenings.

My gratitude also goes to the entire staff, who worked seamlessly together and delivered outstanding service throughout the evening.
