In a dim-lit realm, where echoes of ancient tales resound and the spirit of Middle-earth permeates the air, there stands a most curious establishment known as the “Headless Chicken.” Here, within a quaint subterranean chamber, patrons are transported to a realm of myth and lore, a tribute to the worlds of Tolkien and other fantastical narratives.

As one descends into this cozy cavern, a sense of entering a Middle-earth tavern envelops the soul. The flickering candlelight dances upon stone walls adorned with relics and trinkets, each whispering stories of adventures long past. Above, a chandelier, wrought in the likeness of the One Ring, casts a golden glow, illuminating the merry fellowship beneath.

The ambiance is rich with the melodies of faraway lands, songs reminiscent of the Shire’s merry gatherings and the majestic halls of Rivendell. Amidst this atmosphere, the staff themselves become part of the enchantment. One, a graceful elf, moves with ethereal elegance, while another, a hearty innkeeper, speaks in a cadence that harkens back to medieval times, offering a jovial “hail” to all who enter.

Two grand tables command the space, inviting strangers to share not just a meal but an experience. It is here, in this shared camaraderie, that the illusion of a Middle-earth gathering is most potent, where bonds are forged over tales and tankards alike.

Yet, as with any alehouse, the brews are a matter of personal taste. The ales served here, though brewed with care, tend towards a sweeter profile, perhaps more suited to the palates of hobbits than those who favor the bitter complexity of modern stouts and IPAs. For those who long for a more balanced draught, this sweetness may prove a hindrance, a minor blemish upon an otherwise magical experience.

In the “Headless Chicken,” one finds a fleeting escape from the mundane, a brief sojourn into the fantastical. Though the sweetness of the ale may deter some, the charm of this Middle-earth haven ensures a night of whimsical delight, where for a few precious moments, one might believe themselves in the very heart of Tolkien’s mythic lands.

Review Summary:

• Ambiance: Immersive Middle-earth themed décor with candlelit charm. • Service: Character-driven, with staff in medieval attire enhancing the theme. • Experience: Cozy, with large communal tables fostering a sense of fellowship. • Ales: Sweet in flavor; may not appeal to those preferring modern, bitter beers.

A place of rare magic and fellowship, the “Headless Chicken” offers a tantalizing taste of Middle-earth, albeit with ales sweeter than...

The place is nice, but when I asked where is WC, a very young guy at the bar told me to go to the neighbor bar to the right down the street. I went there and got yelliing from an owner and blonde old lady, while I tried to find a WC. I came to them and asked why they were so angry. The bartender from HC told me to come here. I also held a glass of beer in my hand, which was designed not like regular "saku" glass. The old lady started to hit the bar table, yelling I was wrong, and I needed to tell or show some "password" to use the WC. I said I DON'T KNOW ANY PASSWORD, the guy from HC told me just to come here. She said I was lying and started to behave very rude to me. In the end, when she told me everything she wanted, she finally told me what I needed to show, so they know I am not a person from the street. I Love roleplays, but not to have shame and feeling like an awful child for nothing. There was no my fault that bartender in HC told me nothing why. This killed all my warm vibes after the design and atmosphere of being at HC. I am a nurse, and I used to help people and be loyal, but not talking to them like everyone owes me something. I was not even sure if she was a worker or just a regular customer or whatewer. Just do this system more clear so no one from your staff forgot to say you need a password for toilet in...

Stepping into Headless Chicken is like stepping into a warm embrace on a cold evening. From the moment you walk through the door, you're greeted by a rich, inviting atmosphere that sets it apart from any other spot in town. The lighting is soft and golden, casting a warm glow over the rustic wooden beams and antique decor, creating a sense of timeless charm.

The cozy seating arrangements make it perfect for an intimate night out or a relaxed gathering with friends. The staff here are exceptionally friendly and attentive, adding to the welcoming vibe.

Loved all the collectibles related to Lord of the Rings and other fantasy pop culture, makes this place extra great for someone who enjoys fantasy.

In conclusion, Headless Chicken is not just a place to grab a drink; it's a place to unwind, to connect, and to feel truly at ease. If you’re looking for a tavern with a great atmosphere and an unparalleled cozy feel, this is the...

A fun little lord of the rings themed bar. There are only 2 long tables with bench seating and a small bar. They have a small but delightful selection of drinks including Mead and honey beer, and at lower prices than the other medieval themed restaurants/bars in the old town. They have a small selection of snacks including fried dumpling and chicken wings, both pretty good. There is only one person working, who stays in character pretty well, so you need to buy everything from the bar and pay per order. It is a great little place to have a few drinks and a snack before exploring the old town Note: There is no washroom in the bar, you need to exit and go to a bar next door (they have an agreement)
