If you're in Tallinn and craving comforting, handmade dumplings with a variety of delicious fillings, Pelmen Kohvik is the place to be. This cozy café specializes in pelmeni, offering both classic and creative takes on this beloved dish, making it a must-visit for dumpling lovers.
We tried three different types of pelmeni, each offering a unique and satisfying flavor experience. The Klassika Pelmani (pork and beef) was a traditional favorite—juicy, well-seasoned, and perfectly complemented by sour cream and fresh herbs. It was simple yet incredibly flavorful, highlighting the beauty of classic Eastern European comfort food.
The Saaremaa Viking Pelmani (lamb and garlic) was a standout. The lamb had a deep, rich taste, with the garlic adding just the right amount of kick without overpowering the dish. These dumplings felt hearty and rustic, a perfect choice for those who love bold flavors.
For something different, we tried the Ebavõrdne Abielu (chicken and shrimp), an unusual yet delightful combination. The lightness of the chicken paired surprisingly well with the sweetness of the shrimp, creating a balanced and slightly unexpected flavor profile. It was a unique twist that we truly enjoyed.
To go with our meal, we had Vana Tallinn Kohv and Glögi. The Vana Tallinn Kohv was a rich coffee infused with the famous Estonian liqueur, offering a warm, slightly spiced, and sweet finish—perfect for a chilly day. The Glögi, a traditional spiced mulled wine, was fragrant, warming, and an ideal companion to the hearty dumplings.
With its relaxed atmosphere, friendly service, and excellent selection of handmade pelmeni, Pelmen Kohvik is a must-visit for anyone looking to experience one of Estonia’s most comforting dishes. Highly...
Read moreI recently stumbled upon a hidden gem in the heart of the city - a Russian food restaurant that truly takes you back in time to the Soviet era. From the moment you walk in, you are greeted with warm and cozy décor that instantly transports you to a different time and place.
The menu is filled with classic Russian dishes that are prepared with precision and care. I started off with some borscht, a traditional beet soup that was bursting with flavor. For my main course, I indulged in some pelmeni, perfectly cooked dumplings filled with savory meat and served with a dollop of sour cream. Each bite was like a taste of nostalgia, reminding me of meals my grandmother used to make.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is truly special, with old Soviet propaganda posters, and newspapers lining the walls and the sound of the music of 80/90-s. The staff are attentive and friendly, adding to the overall inviting ambiance of the place. Also it's a dog friendly place!!!
Overall, I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. If you are looking for a delicious meal that also offers a unique glimpse into Soviet time history, this is the place to go. I will definitely be returning to sample more of their delectable dishes and soak in the warm atmosphere of the...
Read moreWe came here twice, once for dinner then next day for lunch. Compared to the other “touristy” restaurants this place is really good quality and value for money (hence coming twice!).
Food quality was good (we got soups and dumplings: see pics). The soups were rich and and hearty. They have a good range of Estonian beer too.
Menu: all items have an English translation and a picture of everything.
Dinner service : was fully booked except for one table which we got. (It was raining so not able to sit outside). Service was fast and waitress was very friendly.
Lunch service: was only one server so had to wait a few min to be seated before we were seated and a bit of a longer wait for him to take our order. Food came quickly afterwards. Given the food quality and prices I think it’s worth the wait.
Ambience: it’s filled with 1980’s and 90’s memorabilia. Table / toilets all very clean.
100% Worth...
