Good food but disappointing service…
After looking at the pictures and reviews of this place we were looking forward to try it for brunch for our anniversary.
I was prepared for not such a good service after reading the reviews and I must say that this unfortunately true.
First as we got in no one greeted us. We asked if we could sit on the right side and the reply was: „that is the hotel“. Like we are expected to know that. No help to find a table or tell us where.
When we managed to get a table really quickly they came to take our order, impatiently. We order 2 coffees and some breakfast menus. One coffee came first and took a long time until the other one was on the table. When mine arrived, quite a bit of it was spilled by the waiter while put it down.
Food came after the coffees and one menu was supposed to come with a piece of bread after waiting long for it we signaled one of the counter waiters which seemed to understand, a few seconds later our table waiter comes to the table and we tell her that our bread is missing but we think the other waiter is already on it. Then she just rolls her eyes and leaves.
The scrambled eggs and the shashuka menu were both really good. The croissant we ordered was really disappointing and not worth the price. Also they charged 70 cents extra to my coffee for lactose free milk, which is ok but should have been properly informed by the waiter when I order it.
What was very concerning was that I ordered my eggs with no spices at all, as I am allergic to chilli. The waiter said yes of course. When the plate came in it had pepper on it. I am not alergic to pepper so it was ok but since I don’t want to risk it I always order without any spices. I am not sure if they think pepper is something different than spices or she just did not tell the chef at all and I was lucky it was just made with pepper and nothing else.
Overall it was a nice experience but at the price of 35 Euros for two coffees and two eggs plates you could honestly expect a better and...
Read moreNice breakfast place in the city centre of Tallinn (considering that Tallinn has a lack of breakfast places). Interior is very modern and unique. Food was great - looking at the menu - it sounds interesting and has a lot of potential. Service was questionable and very basic. We were welcomed and sat down by a manager? (I guess) Our server was lovely but you could see that she was either new, our did not have any other hospitality experience. She asked us if we are ready to order straight away (we sat down less than a minute ago, maybe the manager who sat us down did not tell her we have just sat down). Usually, you would also expect a little welcome from your server rather than just taking an order straight away. (In fact, she was on her own, doing everything by herself - maybe this could be a reason too) We had avocado cake with halloumi, potato pancake with a poached egg and veal salad. First two were great :) Veal salad could potentially be very good but it was not veal! It says Veal salad in the menu but when it was delivered we realized it was a roast beef salad. Roast beef is slightly different to veal, and it a bit strange that they put veal in the menu but served roast beef. We also asked the server what meat is it? She said it was roast beef, but then she mentioned that she does not really now. In fact, she was not even ashamed that she did not even the know the menu of place where she works. Maybe, it is just the lack of training. When we got the bill, it was said a roast beef on the bill too, however, it is still a veal in their menu. Overall, it was a nice experience - there is a potential and it is different to other places, but food and service needs a...
Read more👍Glutenfree Options👍 Tasty poached egg-toast as breakfast on gluten-free rye bread 😋 Bread was thankfully not a dry, thick unchewable sole but nicely juicy and a good taste.
The vegetable variants of the toasts had a slightly sour character that tasted very good. Altogether a delicious combination but anyways, as usual, I always prefer extra salt, eg on the poached egg. 🧂
Matcha Latte was something to choose if you want to try an alternative to coffee, tea or hot chocolate! The matcha and warm milk together is a flavorful combination and taste very good.
The simple, minimalist interior style felt homely, calmly stylish with an atmospheric feel.
The restaurant and cafeteria Loulou is situated very close to the ferry port, in the bottom floor of Citybox Tallinn Hotel and well worth a visit.
At least for the gluten-intolerant audience, looking for something more extraordinary to eat, I highly recommend Loulou.
Of course, the contamination risk can be a challenge to the very high sensitive but the products and ingredients are handled separately so it shouldn't be a problem.
Bon appetite!👌
UPDATE REVISIT, REVIEW 🦐SKAGEN TOAST🦐 The Loulou Skagen Toast is made on the same theme as the original Skagen Toast with shrimps from the Swedish west coast but this one got another character in its own Loulou way as eg avocado is added. Very yummy, very tasty toast😋 - and very filling indeed. I forgot to ask where the shrimps are from, if Estonian or imported? Anyways, the original differs from Loulous but I really liked it their way and I'll be back for sure for another Loulou...
