La Boulangerie is a lovely and cozy café located just a short walk from Tallinn city center and right next to Port Terminal D. It’s a great place to stop by for a cup of coffee, especially if you’re heading to or from a trip. There are always people inside, which speaks to its popularity.
My wife and I are passionate coffee lovers and love trying coffee at different places. On our first visit, I ordered a cappuccino and my wife had a latte. The cappuccino had a rich taste, lovely aroma, and even a nice little coffee art on top. I genuinely enjoyed it. However, there’s only one available size — a rather small cup. I would happily pay extra for a larger portion because this one was gone in just a minute. It would be fantastic if they could introduce M, L, or XL size options.
As for the latte — it tasted quite mild and more like a milk drink than coffee. The flavor wasn’t strong enough, in my opinion, likely due to the milk-to-coffee ratio. A more balanced taste would be appreciated here as well.
The staff was absolutely lovely — polite, welcoming, and smiling. Huge thanks to them! The interior is cozy, stylish, and very comfortable. There’s also a selection of pastries, but during our second visit around 4:15 PM, most of them were already gone. We were told everything had been sold earlier, which is a good sign of how popular the place is.
The second time, I ordered a Flat White and my wife had another latte. The Flat White was slightly acidic and didn’t impress me as much as the cappuccino. But that’s just a matter of personal taste.
Overall, we had a positive experience and would love to come back. Our only major wish is to have the option of larger coffee sizes. At 4 euros per cup, it would be nice to enjoy a drink that lasts more than just...
Read moreNice place with tasty pastries but we're unfortunately rating this a 1 star due to an extremely poor last impression.
As we were about to leave, we decided we wanted to take some pastries away so we waited to order. The staff was serving another group of customers and we expected that once she was done with that group, she would come and take our order.
We stood in front of the section where all the bread was shown so previously that would've been the line to order and hard to be mistaken that we were simply standing there. As the staff was serving the other group of customers, we noticed she glanced at us several times so she clearly saw us.
After she was done serving the other customer, she went to another staff who was making coffee and said something then proceeded to go and take plates from the desks instead of taking our order. The place wasn't packed at this time and we felt completely neglected.
We don't understand why the staff decided to go clean up plates on a single table when the place wasn't packed instead of taking an order from a waiting customer. The staff could've told us she would take our order soon and she clearly noticed we were there but seemed to ignore us completely.
We decided to leave rather than to wait to make an order. This was such a bad way to end our experience here. We really liked the vibes of the place and the pastries we ordered were both really nice. The first staff that served us was also really nice to us and she provided us recommendations...
Read moreNice atmosphere but misleading score. We visited this place for breakfast after seeing the high rating but it did not meet our expextations. We ordered many items from the menu so here’s our take from it:
Croissant was bland, hollow, the crsut was thick and not flakey at all. I could not smell any butter either.
Apple pie-like croissant was bland, apple was not tasteful. The taste could be enhanced with cardamom or cinnamon maybe.
Truffle galette was cold, it was also bland. Basically ham and cheese.
Pain au chocolates was alright.
Ratatouille galette was also okay, I think it was made with buckwheat, because the smell was prominent. The aroma could have been elevated with more herbs, or even with black pepper because veggies themselves were not tasty, as this is a summer dish prepared in the winter.
Croque madame was the table’s favourite.
I enjoyed almond croissant as well but the almond cream had too much rhum.
The staff were friendly, tables were big enough. Prices were a bit high considering the overall experience. This place would not be my first choice when I...
