We were in Tallinn and loved the city. The tour group that I was with decided to go to Maikrahv for lunch, and they have a downstairs that is set up for larger groups. The food they served was barely passable -- but what was truly amazing was that this restaurant,. which must cater daily to people from all over the world (It's right on the main square in Old Town Tallinn), had no knowledge whatsoever about food allergies and how serious they can be. We called ahead to let them know that we were showing up, and that we had a very serious, potentially life threatening allergy, and they indicated they would prepare that meal separately from the others. Upon being seated, I advised the waiter that I am the fellow who was supposed to have the allergen-free meal. They brought it out, and it was loaded with a sauce that looked suspicious (after decades, we know what food looks like that contains egg). The waiter assured me that this was the meal that had no eggs, and that only mustard and cream were used to make the sauce. With that assurance, I dug in and consumed half of the food when another waiter brought out a completely different plate full of food, saying to me "Here's your special meal without eggs." Oh my Gosh -- I had already eaten the other one. I asked again, was there egg in the meal that I ate? He didn't say a word other than "Must be a mistake. Go ahead and eat the meal you have." So I finished the meal. A short time later, the manager or a cook came out and asked me "Please, tell me "JUST HOW ALLERGIC ARE YOU?" and gave me a concerned look when I said "very allergic." As it turns out, the mystery sauce had egg powder in it, and for the rest of that day and the next, I was sick as a dog despite throwing up and losing most of my meal. This restaurant does not deserve your business -- certainly NOT if you have...
Read moreSo. When we sat down to eat, we decided that we just want some ice cream (considering the absurdly high prices). On the menu it says, and I cite, “a separate ice cream ball”. First, we had to wait for about forty minutes until someone took our order. When somebody finally came, we ordered a separate ice cream ball. For 3,50. Ten minutes later we got three bowls with three balls of ice cream. Being confused, we asked the waitress (who was not friendly at that) whether she had brought us the right thing. After a very confusing conversation, her English wasn’t the best, she told as, that the “separate” ice cream ball was actually an “additional” one. Which was not clearly communicated in the menu at all. (Even in Russian the word used meant separate and NOT additional.) After saying that she couldn’t do anything for us, she left, and we were forced to pay the ridiculous price of 9 € for three balls of ice cream, which didn’t even taste that good. The experience was disappointing, to...
