Hi! I had booked a table in advance for having christmas dinner at Vana Toomas. First the staff could bot recognise my name (under which I made the booking or if I had any reservations). Second we chose a table upstairs which had a pretty view, from the Christmas market and we were left there with two drink menus. After waiting for 30mins I had to go downstairs to ask the waiter if someone could take our order cause I thought maybe they forgot or were busy with other clients (christma day, understandable). After 10ish minutes finally the staff came but with other group of people which just arrived. Then the waitress was about to take their order without even looking at us (we arrived first) then she grabbed our menu and gave it to them not saying “excuse me” or “can i borrow this”? Anything… then I let her know we have been waiting. She looked confused and asumming we didn’t have a reservation, and letting us know people with reservation had priority, so that’s why I assume she payed more attention to other costumers even If I reserved in advance. We just decided to leave. We also had 50 cents on the table and she took them without telling us maybe thinking it was a tip?
Then after 35-40 mins we left and ended up eating in a nice Indian Restaurant where they cared more about listening and nicely treating us.
In general the dynamics at Vana Toomas for ordering were not clear and communication either. Staff seemed not prepared.

Eelroog oli peakoka degustatsioonivalik hirve sisefileest tartar riisikrõpsudega, glašeeritud kitsejuust ja Argentiina krevetid. Pearoog oli meil valitud hiidlest köögiviljade, murulaugu pestokreemi ja ürdise vadakukastmega, sinimerekarbid tsitruselises valgeveinikastmes. Magustoiduks oli puraviku creme brülee marjakastme ja värskete marjadega.
Eelroa puhul toodi kolm taldrikut lauda jagamiseks. Neist kõige parem oli hirve sisefilee tartar, kus maitsed olid tasakaalus. Kaste oli see, mis ühendas aga ei saa öelda, et oleks saanud maitseelamuse. Visuaalselt oli ilus. Hinnang 7/10 Teisele kohale paigutan glašeeritud kitsejuustu. Juust sobis väga hästi maitserohelise ja maasikatega(värskeid tomateid ma ei söö, seega neid hinnangusse ei pane ega võta selle põhjal hinnangut alla). Toit oli lihtne aga jällegi ei tekitanud erilist tunnet. Visuaalselt hea. Hinnang 6/10 Kolmandaks paigutan Argentiina krevetid. Selle kõrval olevat kastet kasutasin kreveti peal. See oli suur viga, sest kaste oli liiga intensiivne. Kaotas ära kreveti enda maitse. Visuaalselt hea. Hinnang 3/10
Pearoaks oli minul hiidlest köögiviljade, murulaugu pestokreemi ja ürdise vadakukastmega. Lest oli maitsev aga nahk ei olnud krõbe, mis toob ka üldise hinde alla. Pestokreem koos ürdise vadakukastmega ühendas kõik taldrikul ja oli väga hea. Köögiviljad olid maitselt värsked ja tekstuurilt krõmpsud aga minu jaoks oli paprika üleliigne selle toidu puhul, ei sobitunud minu maitse järgi. Visuaalselt hea. Hinnang 8/10 Naine on suur mereandide fänn ja valis sinimerekarbid tsitruselises valgeveinikastmes. Taldrikul olevad sinimerekarbid sobitusid kokku kastmega ja maitsega jäi ta rahule. Aga ei olnud toidus midagi sellist, mis oleks temas tekitanud "wow" efekti. Visuaalselt ilusam kui lest Hinnang 8/10
Puraviku creme brülee marjakastme ja värskete marjadega. Ma ei ole kunagi olnud magustoiduga nii rahul kui ma olin selle creme brüleega. Koos hapuka marjakastmega see lausa sulas suus. Visuaalselt kutsus sööma. Hinnang 10/10.
Teenindaja oli väga sõbralik ja kuna eesti keel pole temal emakeel ei tekkinud meil tõrget. Toitu toodi lauda ilusasti tutvustades ja huvituti tagasisidest.

Read moreWe came in with no expectations even though we are locals we had never been to Vana Toomas mainly because old town is known to be pricy. We were amazingly surprised by the service and the food which each had such a great twist. We had a 3 course meal starting with Venison bœuf à la tartar that had amazing sauce for the side, then Duck breast with parsnip cream for the main course which was highlighted by cinnamon apple which you rarely see but was DELICIOUS and finally for the dessert warm caramel apple cake and Bolete crème brûlée.
