Overall this place was mediocre. My husband and I were on vacation and it was our first time eating here. After dining in, we are surprised that this place has such good reviews. From subpar food, to poor waitressing. The restaurant itself was very pretty on the outside and inside. Keep in mind that this place does not have public restrooms. Seems like all places are like this in Chicago for some unknown reason. Anyway. Our waitress was friendly but was not attentive to our very basic needs at all. Like my drink needing a refill. Most of the time the servers were huddled up talking by the computers and on their phones. My drink sat empty on the edge of the table for over 15 minutes. The entire time we were there, she came over to check on us once. We only got a box and the check(another waitress brought us our check btw) after having to wave her down after sitting there waiting for twenty minutes. Not acceptable. Now for the food. We ordered a small house salad with ranch. There were two slices of cucumber, two slices of tomato, and three croutons. Topped with what tasted like cheap and unappetizing Hidden Valley ranch dressing. At this point we didn’t have high hopes. We also ordered a deep dish pizza. We did half and half toppings. From what I’ve eaten and seen in the past, Chicago deep dish pizzas normally have the sauce on top with cheese underneath. This pizza did not. My husband had Italian beef and mushrooms on his half. He didn’t like either. He said the mushrooms looked and tasted like they came straight out of a can. My side of the pizza, however, was delicious. No complaints there. It was an overall disappointing experience. Wouldn’t dine here again.

Per the suggestion of a fellow colleague, I decided to make my first meal while on a business trip in Chicago to be at the Exchequer Restaurant & Pub. To be as transparent as possible, this was the best decision I could have made that day as my experience was nothing short of sublime. Upon entering, I am greeted with a warm atmosphere: mellow lighting shines off of beautiful dark wood that line the walls and bar. The aromas drifting from the kitchen are wholesome and inviting. I am then greeted by a member of their friendly staff and escorted to my table, a quiet and comfortable place to dine. After inspecting their rather delectable menu, I choose what I am craving and what my body needs after not eating for the past 12 hours: a Classic American Cheeseburger and Fries, along with their house Amber Ale. Both my drink and my entrée are brought out in more than acceptable time and fashion. The Cheeseburger was hot, juicy, and perfectly seasoned. Their house Amber Ale had a background note of sweetness to it that was pleasantly delightful. For dessert, I treated myself to their Cannoli, which came with 3 (only 2 survived to the photoshoot) and they were absolutely exquisite. I enjoyed my time at the Exchequer, and if you enjoy great food in a charming and cozy atmosphere, then you will as well. Cheers!!!

Monday afternoon lunch around 12:20pm. It was a pretty empty restaurant at this time. When we arrived there weren’t any employees in sight and it took a couple minutes to be sat. After being sat we immediately ordered an Arnold Palmer, small thin pizza all mushroom/half sausage and a small house salad. The drink was very watered down and didn’t taste good so saw a staff member passing and sent it back. The salad took nearly 15 min to come out. It was delivered by another waitress. Our pizza was delivered about 10 min later. It was hot and pretty tasty but the ingredients were wrong. We didn’t get checked on by anyone so our waters stayed empty and I had to flag someone down to ask about the pizza order. Overall the food was good but the service could use some improvement. Ps: they were doing construction on the inside so we had to listen to loud drilling for most of our meal.

I came here for dinner 2 nights in a row. I have live in Chicago from 1961 to 2006 and I never heard of this place and I don’t know why. I discovered this place by accident and I said I have to try it. Wonderful ambience and friendly staff. I sat at the bar the first night and was served by Nina. I ordered the thin crust personal pizza with sausage, pepperoni and onion and was I blown away. Crust was perfect, plenty of cheese and toppings and it tasted delicious. The 2nd night i sat at the bar as well but I can’t remember the female bartender’s name but she was fantastic and attentive. I read online that their Italian beef and sausage sandwich were excellent so I tried it. It was good, not great. It was over salty to my taste… and I like salt. That’s the only reason I ranked the food a 4 was because of my day 2 sandwich experience. Get the pizza and it will be a 5 star!!!

Food was good, but although deep dish pizza had a great cheese pull it definitely needed more red sauce and was quite dry. Went on a weekday during a slow time mid afternoon. Despite being almost empty the service was rediculously slow. Took an hour plus between ordering to serving a party of four. Totally unacceptable. Waitress was 10+ minutes between condiment and other requests and serving despite direct eye contact and her ignoring raising our hands to request for service. Also took us 15+ minutes between requesting take out containers to delivery. Unacceptable on a slow day; management needs to address wait staff hanging out showing memes on their phones at the pay station while ignoring customers paying top dollar for $20 burgers and $25 for a 12" pizza with two toppings. Totally feels like they're resting on their past accolades. Will not return.
