Ateljé Finne, Helsinki.
Ateljé Finne, located in the renowned sculptor Johan Gunnar Finne’s studio at Arkadiankatu 14 in Helsinki, serves up artistically presented plates in beautiful surroundings.
We started with a very generous basket of organic Malmgård breads with sage butter to accompany our drinks.
All fish and meat served in the restaurant is Finnish, and the menu proudly champions incredible local produce; vegetables from Majvik farm and Alberg Garden, eggs from Mäntymäki farm, and reindeer bred in the Paistunturi wilderness area.
We began with a simply delicious Whitefish Ceviche with tomato jus and salted lemon mayo, and a starter special of earthy Mushroom Carpaccio sprinkled with grated cheese and herbs.
Our main courses included a rich Pumpkin Croquette with apple & pumpkin seed purée, and an incredible Pan-fried Pike Perch with parsley root and gooseberry sauce.
To finish, we had a prettily floral Milk Chocolate Ganache with tangy blueberry sorbet and a shortbread biscuit, and a smooth, crunchy-topped Liquorice Crème Brûlée.
At our relaxing mezzanine table, where we were able to gaze across the main dining room and appreciate all the fantastic artwork on display, we thoroughly enjoyed this wonderful meal, and Ateljé Finne’s delightful, attentive, and informative service.

Read moreAverage, nothing more. Service was very good and overall atmosphere was nice but food was below average, and way below expectations.
Starters all around as expected.
Mains (reindeer) very much below how you would expect this dish to be served. Partly overcooked. But partly had a nice smokey flavour. So nothing wrong particularly (would not return to kitchen), but just lack of taste and quality. This could have been SO MUCH better for the ingredients. 2/5. Blah. You have to blow my mind here. Instead you disappoint me.
Dessert, creme brulee, expected to be really smooth as their signature dessert, but instead a disappointing show with too thin crust and bland taste compared to the top 10 of the same dish in the city.
Food 2/5. Would not come again based on that. My friend who has frequently visited this place told that it was also below par for him this night.
On positives, the wine pairings were really really good. Also, staff and service were nice and very appropriate for the setting. Kitchen is the side that is lacking here.
Nice place but sorry, food has to be 5/5 for a place charging...
Read moreExcellent dining experience - fancy, but not pretentious. The interior and atmosphere are classy and clean, so unpretentious as to be almost plain or stoic, and menu and service were all I could have expected. I'm by no means a gastronomy expert, but the dishes were sophisticated, very rich in flavour and tickled all my senses in the right way. A short menu of creative dishes (I was, for instance, recommended the liquorice crème brûlée, and against my expectations it was amazing). Good selection of wines - so far as I can tell from one visit - and knowledgeable and friendly yet professional staff. If it's in your budget range (mains are €25-30, we enjoyed three courses and lavish drinks for about €85 per person), Ateljé Finne is an excellent place for an...
