Today, I popped in to try Murasaki for a late bite and the Teishoku menu was still available. I asked Chef Saki if I could try the Vegan Teishoku and he happily arranged it for me. Murasaki is a lovely new restaurant easily found in Helsinki around the corner from Hotel Bronda. It has a stylish logo and large windows where you can see the restaurant inside. It is a counter restaurant with seats arranged around the central cooking area. It is intimate dining served directly by the Chef. The décor is simple, which allows the focus to be on the food and the cooking experience. The menu is very good value for money and offers genuine Japanese Teishoku cuisine. Ichi ju sansai style , one soup, rice a main and several sides. Very nice to see such traditional cuisine on offer as the sushi boom and teppan-yaki venues often distract from the cultural cuisine of Japan in my opinion. These Teishoku restaurants in Japan are very common places for workers to go out and dine during lunch or after work and get an excellent meal for a decent price. As with Japanese cuisine and culture the service is always a major part and Murasaki makes every effort to look after the customer/guest. I had a lovely time talking with Saki san and learning about his studies in Kyoto in Michelin star restaurants and he showed me some of the night time Izakaya sake and Umeshu he has in house too. I look forward to my next visit. Lunch is served between 11 and 3 pm and then there is the Izakaya menu for night time which will be the next one for me to try. Best wishes to Saki san and...
Read moreWe are being following and enjoying Murasaki popups during this last year's. We where really happy when he opened his own restaurant. Saki provide high quality products with authentic Japanese receipts. He give trully passion and attention to details even in the simplest dishes. The restaurant is a small Japanese sushi/izakaya style restaurant where you sit in front of the kitchen and you can see the chef preparing your meal. We went for the teisyoku set meal. Where you get a set meal and some side dishes of your choose. The fish and side dishes were exquisite and the sashimi is the best you can eat right now in Finland. If you still hungry at the end you can order dashy a rice bowl with salmon and fish soup that taste amazing or some of the deserts. If you like Asian food mainly Japanese and want to know how a trully authentic Japanese meal taste I recommend to come...
Read moreWe went there for dinner and took the 50€ Omakase. Overall, we had a good experience but it was nothing special. I could maybe see myself coming back for lunch but prefer other places in Helsinki for an outstanding dinner in this price range. Food: Everything we ate was good, the sashimi was especially high-quality. We got a lot of tempura, maybe a bit too much as it threw off the balance of the entire Omakase slightly. Service: I thought the service was friendly but it was also a bit akward and there was very very little interaction. Ambiente: The location of the restaurant was a bit random next to the breakfast area of the hotel but it did not really bother and I think the setup is rather unique with the few seats and watching the chef work. A small detail that bothered me was that we were given wooden...
