The worst Indian food I had on my trip to Scandinavia. They close at 11 pm while online it is mentioned 11:30 pm closure.
The server (she was a non-Indian Asian, goes by the name Jenny or Jiban) was the most rude I’ve ever interacted with. I ordered Shahi Panir, to be shared with my wife, and asked her if they could replace steamed rice with Naan since typically in India we have a paneer curry with some kind of bread. She started telling very rudely about how it is impossible due to the rules. I asked her for an order of Samosa, which to my surprise would include just 1 piece for €7 (ridiculous!!!), which she took and then in 2 minutes she comes back only to remind me that she mentioned earlier (like 25 mins ago) that the last order would be in 30 minutes. There was another Indian tourist group who headed out and she stopped one of the lady to inform that a man from that group was conversing with her in a way that wasn’t according to local norm and if he talks like it again tomorrow (apparently they were gonna dine again the next day) she would ask the entire group to leave….what a rude attitude…like really???how would an international traveler know what her definition of local norms is??
This restaurant is nowhere near to typical Indian taste and culture/hospitality.
Don’t dine here unless you’ve not eaten Indian food in 10 years and would like to learn the worst taste of Indian food. We dined here since it was 9:20 pm, we were running late and this was the only place with pure veg (without eggs) naan options and we were starving...
Read moreAs an English person, good curry is very important to me. Finding good curry in Finland is very difficult, especially good English-style curries. Fortunately, me and my wife discovered Samrat, because this is great curry.
The atmosphere is what you'd expect at any good Indian restaurant. It's cosy, it's its full of culture, and it smells divine. When we went it was a Tuesday evening, and the place was almost entirely empty other than a couple of larger tables, and we were really made to feel welcome.
The staff were attentive and helpful when asked questions, and spoke both fluent Finnish and English (which I always appreciate since my Finnish isn't so strong).
The food itself was excellent. There were large portions of rice and curry, the samosas were a fantastic size for their price, and the naan similarly large portions. As for the taste, all of the food was fantastic and we will definitely be eating there again. It's not quite English-style (which I wouldn't expect at a Finnish-Indian restaurant), and was slightly saltier than I'm used to (which Finns tend to prefer) but in no way are these negatives, just something to be aware of for expats like myself.
The only reason why this review is 4 stars instead of 5 is due to the somewhat limited menu. There is a lot to choose from still, but there weren't many lamb or beef curries, no madras or rogan josh (my favourites), and the only du piaza (my wife's favourite) was vegetarian-only, and unfortunately neither of us...
Read moreFirstly, the google shows restaurants closes at 11:30, and they take the last orders at 9:45. Secondly, the taste of food is very basic. We ordered panner chilli, shahi paneer and garlic naan. Paneer chilli has just paneer with lots of onion with punjabi gravy. The Shahi paneer had diced panner and onions and taste was very basic which serves with rice. The taste was bland and we were not even asked for spicy level. We asked the waiter to change rice with naan if possible, and she said no RUDELY asif we were asking for free food. She said if we order more than only she would do it. She was too rude to us and all the people in restaurant. There was only a female waiter and she was showing extreme attitude. We even asked for some diced onions which she said its onion salad (diced onions with lemon) and will have to pay for it. The customer service from this waiter was horrible and the taste of food was okayish. While travelling, i felt my dehyderated/ ready to eat packs of food taste far more better than this food. And the food was served within 7-10 minutes. So seems like everything was ready except naan which took...
