I am sorry to write this review because my expextations were very high.
On a positive note, the service was very good and the location is nice.
The pizza I had was honestly not good. It's true that I am Italian and my standards are high, it's true that we are in Finland and one cannot demand a true neapolitan pizza, but the expectations are set way too high by this place.
In fact, it was quite surprising to be let down in such a way: the reviews are generally good, the pizza looks nice from the pictures, and most importantly, the moment you step into the place you are surrounded by slogans about how good the pizza is and the personnel has shirts that say "straight outta napoli". The names of the dishes are in italian and everything looks set for a satisfying experience. But that was not my case.
I had a Margherita (I asked for the addition of eggplant but apparently it is impossible to have little changes on your pizza). When it arrived, it did look good. However as I dug into it some critical flaws became evident: first of all it was not cooked uniformely (one side was ok, the other a tiny bit on the raw side). The dough itself was quite unremarkable. The tomato sauce was a bit sour and not different from store-bought sauce cans. The mozzarella was thin and dry, and the taste was plain. Painfully, the only thing that I found tasty was the basil.
I honestly do not recommend this place based on my experience, let alone the fact that is unjustifiably pricy compared to other pizza places that are a far better choice (e.g., pizzeria 425 in the market hall, which is pretty alright).
Tldr: a disappointing (absolutely not) neapolitan pizza place that feels artificial and in the end has very little more than an apparently efficient marketing. Not worth it, especially for the...
Read moreRestaurant is located in one of Turku's most iconic history buildings and it does good for the location design. The overall atmosphere is pretty expensive, high brow - yet accessible, and it is known to be an expensive and classy restaurant. (The bar upstairs serves mostly an after work society with a rich income. The atmosphere there is rather stiff, and alcoholic.) The kitchen serves seasonal dishes inspired by a combination of local resources and a more traditional take on how to build a menu. The menu's do not change often and are quite similar to one another, this is however not necessarily a problem if you would only visit once or twice a year. The price does not fit the quality and/or inspiration of the dish. But Pinella is focused on high class, so I guess it's inevitable for such an establishment to bump up the price. In the summer there is an equivalent of a VIP beach-terrace alongside the river. Expect white shoes and pants, golden sunglasses and thin glasses of...
Read moreDelicious pizza! I went to the same pizzeria in Helsinki and really liked it. The one in Turku is as good! I love the pizza. It’s think and chewy yet not to chewy. It has old balance with the topping. I ordered the spicy one( forget the name but there’s only one) and guess what? It is spicy!
I had a glass of white wine and tiramisu as desert. The white wine was a good selection. Tiramisu is so good! I am really happy about the food.
The service is good and friendly. They care about if we are happy with the food and if we need something else.
The interior is quite unique and I like the...
