We just left and had a very unfortunate experience. The cheese fondue was split and inedibly grainy. The tomato soup had a large roasted tomato on top which was fermented and made the entire soup inedible. My husband was served a drink that the waitress said was the last pour of the bottle which was at first a plus, but it ended up being full of sediment and not drinkable. The venison special was inedibly chewy. I don’t often leave bad reviews, however as lovely as the atmosphere was, I cannot in good conscience not leave a poor review as a warning to other potential diners. The ratatouille was good, as was the bread. So go there for those I suppose! We shared the feedback as nicely as we could with the server, showing the many barely touched dishes and the almost full glass of liquor my husband couldn’t finish to which we were presented with a full bill. 70 euros for a small pot of stewed vegetables and bread. My career is in the food industry so I know good food, and not to sound like a dick, but we truly had the worst meal of our trip here, and being presented with a full bill for a table full of mostly inedible food after providing feedback added insult to injury. Wasn’t expecting a fully comped meal, however even the drink full of sediment we were charged for, and there was no attempt at providing any explanation or apology. Everyone has bad nights, but 3 very poor dishes out of 4 doesn’t bode well, and at the very least being offered a way to make it right would have left us feeling differently. But, poor food AND poor service? Nope! I’ll add that we aren’t insufferable and entitled tourists, and being in the food industry I always choose to be fair and kind. Please accept this warning, and know that you may or may not have an inedible meal, which may or may not be acknowledged in an acceptable way by your server or the owner. Go for the vibes and a drink, but a warning to go elsewhere for a reliably good meal in Annecy because this...
Read moreSat down for dinner, ordered a bottle local wine, the waiter took 5 minutes to open the bottle while flicking cork and foil over the table (and us!). He couldn't open it so went to get his boss, the bottle was corked with plastic and cork floating in it. We told the waitress this but she insisted that it was ok. This changed after a minute later to her saying that it was just the first glass that was bad, she went to pour it away and continued to pour the rest of the corked/plastic wine into our glasses. We said we were not happy, which turned into her saying she couldn't see it and basically shouting and being abusive saying that things are different in "our country" and then offering to sieve it, I'm sorry but if I'm paying 40 euros for a bottle of wine I'm not drinking plastic or cork, why ask to taste it if you just ignore everything? How can you work as a waiter in France and not know how to open a bottle of wine? We were with someone who speaks fluent french and has lived in France for many years so it wasn't a language issue. The waitress said it was illegal if we didn't pay for the wine, regardless of the quality. If you want to be shouted at, drink wine with plastic and cork in it and have terrible service then I would highly recommend this...
Read moreThree of four dishes were rotten, separated, or otherwise inedible.
While it's a beautiful place with great ambiance, the food here was inexcusably bad.
The roasted cheese was obviously cooked too quickly and had split, giving it a terrible grainy texture and flavour. The tomato in the tomato soup (it comes with a whole tomato in the dish, which normally would be fine) was beginning to rot and had fermented, and the venison was so tough that it was almost impossible to either cut or chew.
The yellow chartreuse cocktail was excellent, but they also poured a glass of Byrrh that was half sediment and, as such, mostly undrinkable. They informed us when we paid the bill that it was the last pour of the bottle, which they chose to serve rather than telling us there was an issue.
The Ratatouille was excellent, as was the bread, but three of four dishes were completely inedible.
The staff were incredibly rude when we tried to politely bring up the issues with our meal, and rushed us out after we paid without any apology or explanation.
I hate to ever leave a bad review, especially of a small restaurant — and it takes pretty extraordinary circumstances for me to do so — but I would strongly advise avoiding this spot for one of Annecy's many other...
