Le P'tit Paradis — Restaurant in Beaune

Very disappointing, especially since it had come highly recommended and the number of good reviews. Maybe the poor showing was due to an off night. It was a slow night as most stores and restaurants may be closed on Mondays. The initial offering of olive bread was chilled. The entree was described as a collection of plates, but was chunks of plates with vegetables. The pate was barely noticeable. My wife was excited about the monk fish, but it was totally ruined and over cooked. The fish was in small pieces that were overwhelmed by the burgundy sauce and over salted. Upon reflection we should have questioned whether a fish could stand up to a heavy Burgundy style sauce. It turned out to be a mess. My wife, a former caterer, felt that it could have worked if the burgundy sauce with vegetables were presented alongside the fish with a little drizzled over the top of a lightly cooked piece of the fish so that you could actually taste the flavor of the monk fish. I had the pork meatballs with a polenta sauce which generally was fine. However my only complaint was that the polenta was grainy instead of a creamy texture. The dessert was nice as a concoction of a raspberry mousse. Light and delicious and helped cleanse the palate from the monk fish dish. As I stated at the beginning this was such a disappointment. Seeing pictures of some of the other reviews makes me feel even more disappointed from our experience and for the money. Again, maybe it was just an off night. Wir waren auf einer Frankreich Tour und hatten 3 Tage vorher mit einem angebotenen Mail-Programm reserviert. Danach hätten wir allerdings nochmal die Bestätigung des Restaurants unsererseits bestätigen sollen..... Das haben wir übersehen und konnten die Mail auf Französisch auch nicht übersetzten. Wir wurden auf Grund dessen sehr unfreundlich empfangen und auf französisch sehr laut auf Fehler hingewiesen - das gesamte Restaurant hörte aufmerksam zu. Wir waren ziemlich perplex ob eines solchen Vorgehens, so was hatte ich noch nicht erlebet. Wir wollten schon wieder gehen, da haben wir aber doch noch gerade so gnadenhalber einen Tisch zugewiesen bekommen. Um so unverständlicher diese Vorgehensweise, als sich heraus stellte, dass eine ganze Reihe von Tischen an diesem Abend unbesetzt blieben und auch Gäste ohne Reservierung noch ein Tisch bekamen. Das Essen selber, na ja. Die Vorspeise eiskalt, ein Salat mit kleinen Lachsscheiben. Die Hauptspeise, ein Steak, perfekt zubereitet. Allerdings gab es dazu ein Schälchen mit einer Käsesauce, damit konnte ich wenig anfangen. Das Dessert wieder aus dem Kühlschrank, eiskalt und alles lange vorbereitet. Keine Tischdecke, keine Stoffservietten, keine Kerze, die Weinkühlung erst auf nachfragen. Ich frage mich schon, wer in einen solchen Ambiente für eine Falsche Wein 150 € oder noch mehr ausgibt. Es gab vielleicht 4 oder 5 Flaschen um die 30-45 €, die absolut große Auswahl der Flaschen lag bei 50 bis über 300 €. Wir waren bei unserer Frankreich Tour in sehr vielen Restaurants essen, hier allerdings waren wir von der Bedienung sehr enttäuscht, das war schon fast freches Verhalten. Das Essen war allenfalls Durchschnitt, der Preis dafür ok (3-Gang knapp 40 €), das Ambiente...

Excellent French restaurant. Very small and cozy and enjoyable. The staff were incredibly nice and amiable and welcoming. The food was incredible. The fish stew was extremely savory and flavorful, and the bread went so well with it. I had the trout for my dinner and it was in the top 2 fish dishes I’ve ever had. Cooked perfectly, melted in your mouth, absolutely wonderful. The desserts were also amazing. The brioche with almond milk ice cream was beautiful. Brilliant pairing.
