Publican — Restaurant in Beaune

When we asked locals where we should go in Beaune to get a drink late at night they said Publican...GREAT BAR! Local beer on draft and a very good selection of wine. The man behind the bar was careful to wait till I had butchered the French language to answer and was fluent in English. The seating was nice indoors but they have a little back patio that is in the inner part of the city that looks over the old moat. When I asked what time they closed the man said "you have time". De passage à Beaune pour quelques jours, nous sommes tombés par hasard sur le Publican après être allés acheter de la moutarde à la fameuse Moutarderie Fallot non loin de là (que l’on recommande aussi d’ailleurs en passant…). La terrasse en hauteur donnant sur une rivière, plutôt calme malgré le carrefour en face, nous a tout de suite charmée. Nous avons été super bien accueillis par un patron de bar qui sait mettre à l’aise ses clients avec juste la bonne dose d’humour. En grands amateurs de bières, nous avons été ravis d’y découvrir une jolie petite sélection de bières locales en bouteille (et notamment la Brasserie La Roteuse à Gevrey-Chambertin à découvrir). La carte des vins est également très intéressante, et on peut se restaurer avec des tapas, assiettes de charcuterie et fromages. Pour la petite anecdote, il y avait de l’orage et de fortes pluies ce soir-là, et nous étions bien contents d’avoir trouvé refuge dans cet endroit simple et chaleureux. Au moment de partir et de regagner à pied le camping municipal de Beaune où nous séjournions, nous avons été marqués par la gentillesse du patron et de sa femme qui nous ont proposé de nous ramener en voiture ! Fantastic beers on tap, snacks menu, great waitstaff. The people here are super friendly and attentive. I LOVE the back patio to sit outside in the sunshine, along the little creek, and people watch.
