UPDATE October 8, 2024: Had dinner again at La Lune last night. In the year since our last visit they haven't missed a beat. It is still terrific. I made a reservation mistake (reservations well ahead of time are a must) and thought that we would not be able to eat there but a stroke of administrative luck had us down for an 8PM reservation the next night. We had the edamame, chicken karaage, some incredible mushroom dish, the Coquilles, tuna tartar and YES the fabulous pork chop which we missed last year as per below. It was all wonderful and since we drove down from Strasbourg just to eat at La Lune our expectations were high. Terrific at every turn. The one thing I am angry with myself for is not getting the name of the wonderfully talented Japanese chef and the gent that runs the front of the house (with some help from a capable colleague this year). I really would like to recognize them by name but it will have to wait until next year. Very few restaurants are a total hit but La Lune is one of them. Cannot wait to return.
October 2023: OK I will say what everyone else below has said, this place is amazing. We made a reservation early enough to sit at the corner of the Chef's table. And you do need to reserve well in advance although we did see walk-ins at 10-11PM. Having lived in Paris, NYC, Tokyo and Brussels we are used to great food. La Lune was as good as we have had anywhere for creativity, presentation and of course taste. Just fantastic. This is a two man show but it never misses a beat. My only complaint, which was totally my fault, is that I did not order the pork chop early enough which was prepared with the skill of a surgeon and looked terrific! A wonderful experience from...
Read morePhenomenal gastronomic experience! Highly recommend!! If you are in Beaune or in Burgundy area DO NOT MISS! I can't say enough good things about Chef Seiichi Hirobe...watching him in action was a treat, his attention to detail is meticulous. The food was absolutely amazing and delicious. Julien Martin is the young gentleman taking orders and giving Chef a hand when necessary. Julien was incredibly helpful in making recommendations and helping us pair wines with our food. He was also a ton of fun. Here is what we ordered, and it was all delicious and perfectly prepared: Karaage Japanese fried chicken, Menchi-Katsu (pork) with a tasty sauce , Shinkei Jime style Trout with asparagus and noquette-wasabi vinaigrette, Grilled scallops on lotus roots with peas and shellfish-curry sauce, Cheese plate with 6 regional cheeses (including the delicious artisan monks cheese called Fromage de Cîteaux), a flourless type of chocolate cake, and creme caramel...both with fresh berries. Wines: 2018 Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Terrasses des Vallerots from Bertrand et Axelle Machard de Gramont, 2018 Domaine Tollot-Beaut Chorey-Les-Beaune 2020, SAB'S Le Marc Burgundy Grapes. See pics form other reviewers...they capture everything I have descirbed from our expereince above. ...
Read moreFood is ok for european standard but mediocre if u come from asia. Service - très mauvais. Period. That server guy in glasses - don’t know what is up with him.
We were the only asian customers on that night and were the last group to be served. Sat for at least 15 mins, not attended at all. Not even given with a wine list to study while we waited. I know some groups were probably seated earlier than us but don’t you think it is normal protocol to at least give out a wine menu to customers to study first? Afterall we are in Burgundy. (PS a la carte menu on the wall). No bread basket for us when everyone else in the restaurant already received it. We only got it when we asked…. Geez. No attention whatsoever. None. Was the waiter racist or pure coincident that he just forgot about us? I don’t know. You tell me. Certainly not a pleasant experience at all. Whoever highly recommends this place certainly has not been to any proper modern izakaya and bistromique around the world that is both tasty...
