A recommendation that more than lived up to expectations Me and my wife were here for dinner - 8pm in the evening and the pace was quite busy. We could see why as the evening progressed. If you are wanting somewhere quite intimate/private there is no point in coming here though as seating arrangements are on long benches we equally long tables. There is more than enough room though so don't let that put you off. As many have said it's a case of select your preferred meat at the butchers counter, which is then cut based on the size you want and then taken away to be cooked as you asked for. The waiter takes your order for sides, drinks etc. and your cut of meat is delivered along with the sides. Me and my wife both chose a fillet but cooked differently - take care before you tuck in as we'd been handed ours the wrong way round. It wasn't a massive inconvenience to check this out and swap though. The quality of the food is outstanding (including desserts) even though it's kept quite simple. The wine list is huge and it caters for every taste (and pocket)! I opted for a reasonable red that was excellent. We would have been more than happy to visit again but, given time and the sheer number of restaurants in Bordeaux didn't. If we return to Bordeaux I have no doubt we'll be back though. Finally, my poor grasp of French and the staffs equally poor grasp of English wasn't a problem in the end. With a smile, pointing to the menu or the counter and an acceptance that as someone from the UK I really should make an effort to learn the local language all was fine. We all had a chuckle at my fairly feeble attempts at French. My tip would be just be polite and...
Read moreNot worth the price in my opinion. So… mixed feelings about this restaurant. We asked for a mixed Spanish charcuterie plate. It was competent, with the Jambon being the high note of the plate comprising of other two different chorizos, paio and pâté. We asked for a piece of entrecôte Black Angus, which was good although it didn’t seem matured. Then the service… Although the person explaining the cuts was very nice, he wasn’t the one actually serving us… the one that did was the opposite of nice. First of all, with the room mostly empty, they seated us right next to a couple - and the restaurant has run through tables Spanish bodega style. He could have seated us in that same table but with a little more room between us and them, but no…. Right on their lap! Also although he saying right things like “is the food okay?” his attitude was just the opposite as he wanted us out of there quick - “damn pesky tourists paying my wages, how...
Read moreI think this might be a bit of a tourist trap. I've had far better steaks for the same price. We were recommended a single 400g steak to share between 2 people. The cut of steak was so varied that it would have been impossible for the chef to cook it evenly the whole way through - subsequently it was tough, burnt and chewy in some parts of the steak, and maybe 50% of the steak was cooked beautifully. The duck fat chips were good. The salad was a bowl of lettuce with too much oily vinaigrette. The waiter and 'butcher' were both friendly. The interior decor is dark and dated. As with anywhere in Europe, you cannot sit and eat at the outside tables without having to experience second-hand...
